Before the climbing, sliding, and feeding the very hungry caterpillar comes the read aloud. We all know how important reading and being exposed to books is for young minds. How do we keep those young minds interested and on task when it comes to literacy? Bouncing on the doggies to feed the pelicans (after unlocking doors to get the “food”) requires many skills a child will need to thrive in kindergarten. A few of them being core strength to simply sit in a chair for a long period of time, hand-eye coordination to complete simple tasks, and bilateral coordination needed to hold a worksheet still with one hand and write with the other hand, or tying shoes. Another huge skill is problem solving, which they will need everyday in the big world of kindergarten!

All 9 groups of the kids enjoyed this learning activity! One student put only green coins in the truck making the sorting very easy 🤭😄

Using a recycling truck ♻️and plastic coins🪙, the focus of this activity is using fine motor skills (small hand muscles) to pick up and put the coins in the truck, and sorting the coins by color. Crawling to drive the truck also brings in gross motor movements needing core strength, shoulder stability, bilateral coordination and hand-eye coordination. All of these essential skills are being promoted through play!
