📢 P.S.A. & Suko update 6/1🐾
Suko had another follow-up appointment on 5/26. X-rays were repeated and revealed only slight improvement. He will continue on current medications, as we are still hopeful for a full recovery (even if only baby steps at a time). The invoice for Suko's visit is attached.

We would also like to bring to our donors attention that we were informed by Dundee Heritage Animal Hospital, that they will no longer be offering discounts to any Rescues as of May 1st, 2026.
As a result, you will no longer see a discount reflected on our invoices from them. As a smaller Rescue, we anticipate the higher costs may negatively impact our ability to take on future medical cases.
With the rising costs of pretty much everything, wishlist donations and funding to support rescue work have become increasingly more difficult to raise.
We will continue to help our community kitties, to the best of our ability.

5/24/26 Update and a thank you💟
We received some donations with no attached information, so to whomever sent these items, thank YOU so much! These items are very needed💝.There were a couple other items as well but we put them to use right away.

Suko has another appointment scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday, to have additional X-rays and an exam to check his progress. He has continued on several meds over the last month but his progress has been very slow. His f***l came back from the lab negative on lungworm. Some of the other affected kittens have gotten over the majority of their symptoms, while a few others have lingering symptoms. 🙏 We are praying that the worst is over now and everyone is headed in the right direction for recovery.
We cannot thank you enough for the special foods that were sent along the way to help them get through this, it really made a positive difference🩷.
We will give another update on
Suko after his follow-up appt. on Tuesday.

As for our latest TNR project that has been on hold, we have located one of the sets of kittens that are going on approx. 4 weeks now.
We have not had eyes on the kittens as of yet (so we don't spook her). Once we have momma and give her some time to settle, we'll decide what our next steps will be, as to whether momma is friendly, has potential, or will be a TNR.

Helping Feline Friends has been partnering with A&T Thrift in Monroe, MI for the past few months to help our community members who might struggle from time to time with food. We are specifically helping to provide pet foods (and sometimes other extra items, like treats, p*e pads, or cat litter, when available). We break down larger bags of items into smaller sized bags to help bridge the gap when pet owners need just a little extra help until the next social security payment or that next paycheck. It's been difficult to keep up with the need and we could use a little help from our village.
If you have any pet foods that your pets don't like and would like to donate it to help with outreach, we would be happy to help get it where it's needed most. Just send us a message for drop off/or pick up.

A tiny helpless kitten was abandoned at our door, The attached note states "Can you help me? I'm looking for a new home, safe from all those hands grabbing me all the time. I just need a sunny place to keep warm during the day. Thank you for caring 🩷💙🩷."
It's the cutest lil thing🥰.
The eyes light up (solar).
Thank you...it's adorable and brought a smile to our faces🤗.

When an urgent plea for help with special foods to help our sweet babies through the calicivirus & mycoplasma is posted and the response is more than you could have hoped for🥹🥲.
Dawn, Suzanne, Mark, Nancy, Emily, Martha, and anonymous, an enormous "thank you" is in order for supporting their special needs during their healing process.

Today, we put in almost 7 hrs cleaning up the surrounding area for our current TNR project kitties.There WAS way too much junk, that any of them could possibly get hurt on (we didn't want to risk it). We are currently aware of two litters of kittens that were born recently and they will be exploring soon enough.

Suko update 5/11/26
Suko was seen today by our veterinary clinic. His x-rays were taken again and compared to the previous x-rays taken on 4/16, 4/18, 4/29. Improvement is not being observed at this time and he is still struggling to get better😔. Our vet will be consulting with the Oakland Veterinary Referral Services (where Suko was previously hospitalized) with today's x-rays, as we continue on current meds. We will be providing Suko's stool sample to be checked for "lungworm" as another box to be checked off.

We're really not sure what Suko's options for treatment will entail next. Please whisper a little prayer for this sweet little baby, that we find some answers & soon🙏.
