URGENT MESSAGE The Portage Fire Department has been made aware of individuals or a company soliciting donations around the city following the recent disaster while falsely representing an affiliation with our department.

Please be advised: This organization is not affiliated with the Portage Fire Department. Donations collected by this group do not go to the Portage Fire Department, our firefighters, or any department-led disaster relief effort.

We urge residents and businesses to use caution when approached for donations. Before giving, please verify the organization and confirm where your contribution is going. The Portage Fire Department does not solicit donations door-to-door or through third-party groups without clear public notice from the department or the City.

Anyone who is contacted by this group, has concerns, or believes they may have donated under false pretenses is encouraged to report the incident to local law enforcement.

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is doing alright after these storms. I know a good portion of Northwest Indiana is without power, meaning no gas or food.

From my point of view, Michigan City seems to be the place everyone is flocking to so they can get their essentials. With this, gas stations are starting to run out of fuel, so keep that in mind when traveling the distance without a good tank of gas.

Roads are also backed up due to the high amount of traffic, so be sure to take your time getting to where you need to go. The last thing we need is gridlock due to an accident.

If you need any assistance, dial 211, which will direct you to DHS and they can assist in getting you what or where you need.

Good morning everyone! I forgot to add this in yesterday’s post, but unfortunately, we will not be allowing kids to enter the cab of Sherry unless accompanied by an adult.

We had an incident at the fair where a child was in the cab without direct supervision, which led to the turn signal stalk being broken. While everything is replaceable, we would prefer to spend our donated money on things that will benefit our organization and the individuals we serve.

We apologize for this change, but it is a necessary change. Thank you for your understanding!

I would like to thank everyone that came to see us at the Porter County Fair! And a huge thank you to those who donated to us! With your help, we were able to raise a little over $100 during our time at the fair! That's what community is all about!!

Also, a quick reminder that we will be in the Town of Porter this upcoming Friday for their Safety Night! Come see us and meet some local heroes!!

Hey everyone, sorry things have been quiet lately!

We will be at the Porter County Fair starting tomorrow for their Touch A Truck event! This will go until Saturday when the fair shuts down. The TAT Event is from 12pm-8pm. We will have patches for sale, and are always taking donations!
