What an incredible day at Mitzvah Kitchen!

Look at this picture. You see more than 150 people smiling together. But this picture doesn’t tell you the real story.

The real story is why they were all there.

Debbie, the beloved daughter of Nancy and Harry Brooks, was born with special needs. She could not walk or speak, but for 50 years, this beautiful soul touched the lives of everyone around her simply by being Debbie.

She was blessed with incredible parents, Nancy and Harry, who surrounded her with unconditional love, and amazing sisters, Michelle, Brooke, and Linda, who loved her and were always there for her.

Debbie passed away a little over a year ago. But today was a reminder that a person's impact doesn't end when their life ends.

More than 150 people from our community came together at Mitzvah Kitchen in Debbie’s memory and prepared over 600 meals for people in our community facing food insecurity. While Debbie could not speak during her life, today her life spoke very loudly.

Because of Debbie, 150 people came together to do a mitzvah. Because of Debbie, more than 600 people will have food on their tables. Because of Debbie, a room was filled with kindness, compassion, love, and purpose.

Sometimes God sends a special soul into this world whose impact isn't measured by what they are able to accomplish themselves. Their impact is in the love they bring out in others, the compassion they teach us, and the goodness they inspire simply through their presence.

A heartfelt thank you to Dignity Memorial for generously underwriting this special Mitzvah Kitchen event and helping Debbie's family turn her memory into hundreds of acts of kindness.

Debbie may no longer physically be with us, but looking at this picture, it is very clear that her light is still shining.

May Debbie's memory always be a blessing, and may the mitzvahs done in her memory continue to bring more kindness and light into this world. 💙💚
