Last week on Thursday, July 23, Thelma Gibson Health Initiative was proud to host a Hurricane Meal Box Drive at our Coconut Grove office, bringing our community together to help South Florida seniors prepare before a storm arrives.

In partnership with United HomeCare®, Florida Power & Light, the Florida Council on Aging, and the dedicated AVUS Connect® volunteers, we distributed shelf-stable Hurricane Meal Kits and shared valuable hurricane preparedness information with older adults throughout the Coconut Grove community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of our partners, volunteers, and staff whose generosity, teamwork, and commitment made this event possible. Your support helps ensure that our seniors are equipped with the resources they need to stay safe, nourished, and prepared throughout hurricane season.

Together, we continue to strengthen our community by caring for and supporting our older adults—one act of kindness at a time.

These raffles are about more than just prizes. They're an opportunity to celebrate our seniors, bring smiles to their faces, and create lasting memories together.

A special thank you to Carib Import & Export Inc., distributors of authentic Caribbean products, for their generous donation of delicious Jamaican Easter Buns to our South Miami Senior Center seniors.

Thanks to your kindness, our seniors enjoyed a wonderful day filled with smiles, great conversation, and tasty baked treats. Your generosity brought a true taste of the Caribbean to our community, and we are incredibly grateful for your support and commitment to making a difference in the lives of our older adults.

On July 10th, Thelma Gibson Health Initiative was honored to partner with United HomeCare and our incredible community partners to distribute Hurricane Meal Kits to the seniors at Stirrup Plaza Senior Center.

We extend our sincere gratitude to United HomeCare,FPL & Florida Community Care and all of our partners for their generosity, collaboration, and commitment to ensuring our seniors are prepared for hurricane season. Your support made it possible to provide nutritious meals and peace of mind to so many older adults in our community.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, staff, and everyone who helped make this event a success. Together, we continue to make a meaningful difference by supporting and caring for our seniors.

As we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month, we would like to shine a special spotlight on Grace, a student from Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart who has taken the lead in organizing and collecting donations for our community. Grace is a great example of how young women can make a meaningful impact and inspire others through service. 💙

With the wonderful and continuous support from Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, TGHI has been able to provide members in our community with essential personal hygiene products and food items.

Today on International Women’s Day, TGHI proudly remembers our founder, Ms. Thelma V.A. Gibson, who throughout her life broke barriers in healthcare, championed civil rights, and worked to uplift the historic Black community of Coconut Grove.

Ms. Gibson's strength built communities, her voice helped shape the future, and her courage opened doors for so many who followed.

As we celebrate today, we honor not only the women who paved the way, but also the women and girls who will continue to rise, lead, and shape the world in the years to come.

May we carry Ms. Gibson's legacy forward and remember that every step forward is made possible by the women who came before us and the promise of those yet to come.
