Juneteenth, short for “June Nineteenth,” marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.

The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running Black American holiday. A federal holiday since 2021.

On behalf of President, Valda McKinney, A.P.R.I. Miami-Dade Chapter would like to thank all of our members and supporters who attended last night's Equal Ground South Miami-Dade Legislative Debrief Tour.

The event brought together community members, organizations and leaders who heard valuable information about this year's Florida Legislative Session. Hopefully, everyone who attended found it meaningful and helpful.

As the August 18th Primary Elections approach, we hope that you will join us in making phone calls to inform our community about Voter Registration, Vote By Mail and Early Voting. Our Voice Matters.

A.P.R.I. Miami-Dade Chapter and several other community organizations are partnering with Equal Ground next Saturday, June 27th to bring you clear, accessible updates on major legislation passed during the session.

This nonpartisan event will take placein the Black Box Room at Hadley Park from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

The event is designed to break down what happened during the legislative session, what new laws and policy changes mean for everyday Floridians, and how these decisions will impact our communities, particularly Black communities and other historically underrepresented voices.

We invite the entire community to come learn about the real-life impact of policy decisions on voting rights, education, criminal justice, economic opportunity, and more.

Engage directly with policy experts, community leaders, and advocates Learn how to stay civically engaged and prepared for the 2026 election cycle, including updates related to district lines, redistricting and the budget that was voted on today.

Be the change you want to see; join the movement, get in the fight. This is OUR Civil Rights Movement.

This year, through the Clarence Pittman, Jr. Scholarship Fund, A.P.R.I.Miami-Dade Chapter awarded $22,500 to 15 very deserving public school students.

Last night’s A.P.R.I.Miami-Dade Chapter monthly meeting was well-attended and very productive. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.

In addition to conducting Chapter Business, A.P.R.I.Miami-Dade Chapter gave out 4 additional scholarships to deserving students.

We also want to extend a warm welcome to the two new members who were attending the meeting for the very first time, and to the two visitors who joined. Together we are stronger. 💪🏾
