Yesterday the skies cleared to welcome Michele Oka Doner’s shimmering Bird House, a new public art sculpture, at the lush Bayfront Park in Miami Beach.

Here, we were reminded of our visit with the Season Five commissioned artist, who, earlier in the month, so generously opened her storied home studio to our community in New York. She shared a story:

ā€œA bird gets up every morning and sings its song. It does not wait to hear what other birds are singing, nor does it look to see if another bird is getting more notice. It knows its song innately and sings. This is nature: knowing your own song.ā€

šŸ«‚ Deepest gratitude to Michele and Fred, and to all who traveled near and far to join us. This year’s New York program was presented in collaboration with . Photography by the remarkable Christina Holmes ().

Free and open to everyone, Bird House was stewarded by the Art in Public Places committee of Miami Beach. Shoutout to Oscar Rieveling, Danielle Bender and so many others who together brought this work to life.

A few years ago, we took our first ever member trip to Detroit. A city we’ve since returned to many times, indelible in our memory is the studio visit with Wade Tullier, and the vault at his alma mater .

A lot has since changed, but fundamentals are still fundamental. Now, in Tullier’s latest solo at , the artist monumentalizes the building blocks of life with the exhibition aptly titled ā€œSky, Sea, Fruit, Hand, and Seed.ā€

šŸŽ Members: TOMORROW Saturday, May 30, is the last day for free pickups of commissioned works at . See the show and receive the latest addition to your collection! Primary is open from 12–4 PM, before closing for a much deserved summer break.

Stephen Arboite is the fourth and final commissioned artist of Season Eight. 🧨

As we close out a season of world-building and transformation, who better to celebrate than an artist for whom alchemy and materiality are core to their practice?

transforms the surfaces of his works into layered textures, in which fragments of imagery move between what is visible and obscured. Through material experimentation, he examines how memory, spirituality, and identity reveal personal and collective histories embedded in the present.

Commissioner first began our journey with Arboite four years ago, traveling from Miami to Detroit to celebrate his exhibition opening in 2022 at with —shout out to Jumaane and Lauren N’Namdi, who have been instrumental in helping us anchor and develop in both cities.

In ways we’re excited to announce (soon!), this project is both a reflection of how far we’ve come and a nod to the future we build together.

ā€œIn a moment where contemporary art often becomes flattened into image circulation, ownership, and consumption, The Life and Death of Bluegill Prime by David Correa reminded me that participation matters just as much as collecting. Presence matters. Attention matters. Shared experience matters. The performance asked the audience not only to witness a refusal, but to witness one another. And maybe that is where the work becomes most alive.ā€ — šŸ«‚

Set within London’s Sir John Soane’s Museum, Isaac Julien’s film, Vagabondia (2000), follows a conservator as she moves through rooms filled with objects collected during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. As she walks through the galleries, things become increasingly surreal—ghostly figures begin to appear.

What are the narratives shaping our historical records? Whose experiences, perspectives, and voices influence our cultural consciousness?

Free and open to everyone with RSVP (šŸ”—in bio), join us tomorrow, May 21, for Searching for Collective Memory—guided tours, interventions, and a dynamic panel discussion during Third Thursdays at .

Arrive early to secure your spot on one of three immersive outdoor tours, taking place at 6:10 PM, 6:20

Where to begin but with gratitude. šŸ«‚ In a circle made broader by our many communities, commissioned artist David Correa () invited us to reframe our relationship with collecting through a shared experience of The Life and Death of Bluegill Prime—a durational play under the stars on the Plaza.

Describing the history of Bluegill Prime—a 1962 U.S. nuclear test attempt that ended in disaster, destroying its launch pad and contaminating a Pacific island with radioactive debris—he reimagines the bomb as a martyr protagonist: a weapon whose malfunction is interpreted as an act of protest. Embodying rebellion through non-functionality, what happens when we reject our assigned roles?

Still processing the many questions and conversations that unfolded that night, and endlessly grateful for a community that encourages interrogation, experimentation, and vulnerability.

Hello NYC!🌷Kicking off art fair week with artists at home, in the studio, or in residency alongside our friends at .

Eight seasons into Commissioner, one of the greatest joys of this project has been witnessing the process and evolution of an artistic practice over time and always with new eyes.

In the past 18 months alone, , who we commissioned back in 2022, has taken us on a journey with her solo at , at , with her latest book ā€œAtlantic Coast,ā€ the acquisition, and painting—yes, painting! So, when Samoylova suggested that we stop by her new Hell’s Kitchen studio, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to make a ting of it.

šŸ’Œ Members & invited guests: ICYMI, check your calendar and WhatsApp to keep up with invites, art fair passes, and recs.

Endlessly grateful to artists and the people who show up for them and each other.
