I did not set out to be a business owner. I was using my elder daughter energy to do all the things—the safe way.

Then along came life and its awful way of turning you every which a way but LOOSE!

And here we are. Ten years later.

This August, I celebrate alongside every Black-owned business—the challenges met head-on, the lessons learned, the pivots made, and the things we somehow figured out along the way.

Here’s to building brands rooted in value.
Here’s to building businesses that honor the people we serve.
Here’s to generating wealth that impacts both our margin lines and our communities at large.

To the school social workers, counselors, therapists, psychologists, and mental health professionals heading into the 2026–2027 school year — we see you.

Your work happens in so many places: around conference tables, during IEP meetings, in school hallways, on home visits, and in the quiet conversations students may remember long after the school year ends.

As classrooms fill again, we hope you enter this year grounded in your purpose, supported in your work, and reminded that caring for students also means making room to care for yourself.

Here’s to another year of showing up with care, courage, clinical skill, and compassion.

On behalf of Breakthrough Care and Resource Center, Inc., we wish our school-based mental health colleagues a meaningful and impactful 2026–2027 school year.

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”

Back-to-school isn’t only a transition for the kids. New schedules, earlier mornings, packed calendars, drop-offs, pick-ups, homework and all the little things in between can take some adjusting for parents, too.

As your family settles into a new rhythm, remember to make room for your well-being. Rest when you can. Ask for help when you need it. Give yourself grace when the routine doesn’t go perfectly.

Because your presence matters—and so does your wellness.

Wishing parents and caregivers a gentler start to the school year.

Some people carry stress so quietly that the world mistakes survival for strength.

This week’s Thought Partners feature highlights Widlyne Lopez, LCSW, and the importance of creating safe spaces where Black men can put the weight down — even for a moment.

Through virtual therapy, Widlyne supports clients navigating:
• anxiety & stress
• emotionally overwhelmed
• burnout & pressure to “hold it together”
• life transitions & self-worth
• communication and relationship challenges

Healing doesn’t always begin with having the perfect words.
Sometimes it begins with finally being asked the right question.

“What would change for you if you didn’t have to carry all of this alone anymore?”

At Breakthrough Care & Resource Center, Inc., we believe support should feel human, culturally responsive, and emotionally safe — even across a screen.

Mental Health Awareness Month Reminder:
Therapy is more than “just talking for an hour.”

Behind every session is a whole ecosystem working to make care accessible, ethical, sustainable, and impactful — therapists, admin support, technology, training, compliance, outreach, and yes… liability insurance too 😅☕

When you invest in therapy, you’re investing in:
✨ Healing
✨ Community care
✨ Clinical expertise
✨ Safe and ethical services
✨ A mission-driven practice that supports real people

Mental health care is healthcare. And it takes a village to keep the doors (virtual or otherwise) open. 💻🌱

Thank you for supporting practices that support people.

When you can speak about mental health, social work and Haiti in the same sentence—you know you’ve come a MIGHTY long way! Here’s to the memories of those who came before us, the anticipatory hope for those who will come after us—while we still bask in the moment of those who are still with us.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Breakthrough Care & Resource Center, Inc. presents the Breakthrough Comic Book Series: Thought Partners.

This series highlights the real emotional experiences many professionals, caregivers, helpers, and leaders quietly carry behind the scenes — burnout, emotional overload, compassion fatigue, and the pressure to keep showing up for everyone else.

Healing is not weakness.
Support is not failure.
And you do not have to carry it all alone.

Featuring Dr. Adriane Jackson Weaver, LCSW.

Healing. Strength. Purpose.
