Grateful to have Keith, founder of Giant Giant Kelp Restoration Nonprofit in Monterey, CA make the trek and visit the installation Threshold at ICA in San Jose, CA. The artist Lisa Heikka-Huber is a board member at AOTS, as our Art and Policy Director. We invite anyone in the Bay Area to visit her installation before Aug 19. Her work is part of a group exhibition of the 24/25 graduating MFA cohort at San Jose State University.

We are a nonprofit emphasizing community engagement to make positive change related to marine degradation impacts through art education and outreach programs. Recently our board member Lisa Heikka-Huber who is our Art and Policy Director, hosted her MFA thesis exhibition at San Jose State University. Lisa focused on community engagement to raise awareness about Native California Purple Urchin overpopulation in the Eastern Pacific Ocean for her graduate work. Here she is in front of her exhibition: Threshold, an immersive installation and educational art project collaboration with 600 Bay Area California high school students. This is the program where a few of our board members trained to prepare for working toward reef restoration research. Cal Poly Humboldt’s dive program is one of the most reputable in the field and worked in partnership with The Nature Conservancy to fight kelp forests degradation impacts.

Watch now! Divers fight to save California's kelp forests threatened by warming ocean waters.

Thank you for the wonderful feature of this work going on in Mendocino, California.

We believe that, as people, we share the world we live in with all wildlife and should do our part to conserve our environment. Due to extensive coral bleaching from climate change and increased susceptibility to disease, it is crucial for us to mitigate other stressors on these vital habitats.

Our organization will promote education to recreational users of the seas to protect the animals from additional harm, while still being able to enjoy the beauty the ocean provides.
