April is the Month of the Military Child, and today was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.

The Military Affairs Council was honored to support a truly heart-warming event at the Homestead Air Reserve Base Readiness Center. There is nothing quite like seeing our service members take a moment to sit down and read to our nation’s strongest and most resilient children.

While we didn’t sponsor the event, we were thrilled to fuel the fun! We made sure there was plenty of pizza and drinks to go around, keeping everyone energized for an afternoon of stories and smiles.

At the Military Affairs Council, our mission is to bridge the gap between our community and the brave men and women of Homestead Air Reserve Base. Whether it’s through advocacy, community integration, or simply providing a hot meal during a special event, we are dedicated to supporting those who serve and the families who stand beside them.

🍦 Mission Accomplished: Operation Sweet Smiles

What a fantastic day! This Wednesday, April 15th, the Military Affairs Council (MAC) teamed up with our friends at Homestead Air Reserve Base and Homestead Dairy Queen for a truly special collaboration to celebrate the Month of the Military Child!

Our mission was simple: make sure every kid walked away with a smile and a cold treat! It was a massive success!! We saw so many wonderful families and stayed busy handing out plenty of ice cream and toys to the kids.

The Military Affairs Council of Homestead is dedicated to bridging the gap between our local community and the brave men and women serving at Homestead Air Reserve Base. Whether it’s supporting base initiatives or hosting events like this, our mission is to advocate for our military members and their families, ensuring they feel the full support of the Homestead community.

A huge thank you to Dairy Queen for their generosity and to all the volunteers who helped make this event a "cool" success!

Return of the Mack!

The Military Affairs Council was back in action today, proving that we lead from the front when it comes to health and mission readiness.

Led by Charles K Stoner, our team took on the 5k at Schnebly Redland's Winery. We started as a team, and we finished as a team. We might not have broken any land speed records, but every one of us got a little better and a little stronger with every mile.

This successful event is just the beginning. We are fueled up and ready to tackle the obstacles ahead as we stay locked in on our mission.

Mission First. Fitness Always!

Mission Success: SOCSOUTH Family Beach Day!

A massive shout-out to the SOCSOUTH Special Operations Command South team for a phenomenal Family Beach Day at Crandon Park. With over 250 service members and their families gathered on the sand in Key Biscayne, it was a perfect day to recharge and connect.

The Military Affairs Council was honored to sponsor the DJ for the event, keeping the energy high for families traveling in from across Broward, Miami-Dade, and the Keys.

A special thanks to Matthew Ganley for representing the MAC on the ground and supporting our SOCSOUTH community. We are proud to stand behind those who serve.

What an incredible weekend for the Military Affairs Council at the Homestead Seafood Festival, hosted by the amazing team at the Rotary Club of Homestead! 🦐🎉

This annual community tradition was a huge success and an outstanding opportunity for our members to connect with so many great people across our community. From networking with local leaders to being invited on the radio and even getting a moment on stage, the Military Affairs Council was proud to share our mission and highlight the importance of supporting our military community at Homestead Air Reserve Base.

A huge shoutout goes to our incredible member CK Stoner, whose leadership and energy truly made our presence at the festival a success. We’re grateful for the dedication and teamwork that made this event so memorable.

Congratulations to Brandon for winning the 65” TV raffle! 📺 It was a fun way for us to get our name out there while raising funds that go right back to supporting military units and families here in Homestead.

Events like this remind us how strong our community is when organizations come together. The Seafood Festival continues to support great causes in our community, including youth programs and scholarships, and we’re honored to be part of that impact.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, bought a raffle ticket, or simply shared a conversation with us. We’re already looking forward to next year!

What an incredible night hosting the US Army Golden Knights during their visit to Homestead Air Reserve Base. We had a great time sharing laughs, stories, and showing our appreciation for what they do. Huge thank you to Texas Roadhouse for helping us treat these amazing Soldiers to a well deserved night out. We are proud to support those who represent the very best of our military and honored to welcome them to our community.

We are beyond proud to announce that our very own CK Stoner was nominated as one of our most selected and valuable members of the Military Affairs Council.

To celebrate his dedication, CK was given the opportunity of a lifetime: a tandem jump with the legendary U.S. Army Golden Knights while they are stationed at Homestead Air Reserve Base!

CK took the ultimate leap from over 12,000 feet, proving that his commitment to our military community knows no bounds (and apparently, no fear!).

It was a privilege to watch CK represent the Council in the clouds. He reported back that the view was incredible, the adrenaline was real, and the experience was something he’ll never forget.

Thank you to the US Army Golden Knights for the hospitality and for keeping our team member soaring!

Way to go, CK! Keep reaching for the stars (or at least jumping toward them). ✈️🏅

It is with heavy hearts that the Military Affairs Council (MAC) announces the passing of a cornerstone of our family, Mrs. Clara Waterman Powell, who passed away on January 8, 2026.
For many of us, Clara was the very face of the MAC. If you ever attended a meeting, you were met with her pleasant smile and a warm greeting. She was the one who signed you in, introduced you to our members, and made sure everyone felt at home.

Beyond her warmth at our meetings, Clara lived a full and distinguished life:

A Career of Excellence: She was a brilliant industrial engineer who worked for major organizations like Raytheon, Boeing, and United Technologies.

A Heart for Service: Clara lived by the motto "Service Above Self". She was a leader in countless organizations, including the Rotary Club, the Redlands Woman’s Club, and the United Way.

Awards & Recognition: Her dedication was recognized with many honors, including the City of Homestead Volunteer Award and the Positive Living Award.

A Legacy of Love: A descendant of Mayflower passengers and Revolutionary War heroes, Clara loved traveling the world with her husband, Ed. Even in her passing, she offered hope to others through organ donation.

Clara asked that we let the people in our lives know how much they matter and that we cherish every day. We will certainly cherish the time we had with her.

A celebration of life will follow at a later date.

We extend our deepest condolences to her husband, Edward Charles Powell, and the entire family.
Rest in peace, Clara. You will be deeply missed by your MAC family.
