A la opiniรณn pรบblica y a la comunidad cultural:

To the Public and the Cultural Community:
The U-176 Museum-Institute for War Studies Inc. expresses its firm condemnation and absolute rejection of the shooting against the facilities of the National Library of Costa Rica during the early hours of today, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at approximately 4:05 a.m.
As an institution dedicated to the study and preservation of historical memory, we believe that any act of violence is unacceptable, but an assault on a site dedicated to knowledge is of alarming gravity. The National Library is not merely a government structure; it is, above all, a sanctuary of learning, a space for research, and the home where the nationโs history is safeguarded. These venues are fundamental pillars for the development of any civilized society and must be respected as zones of peace, regardless of political or ideological conflicts.
Attacking a library is an offense against the intellectual heritage and identity of a people. The preservation of history and free access to information are rights that must be protected above any differences.
From the leadership of U-176, we express our solidarity with the institutionโs staff and the people of Costa Rica, reaffirming our commitment to protecting cultural spaces and historical memory as indispensable tools for peace and human understanding.
Sincerely,
