The Miami City Commission voted last week to expedite arresting the homeless. The focus now shifts to Miami Mayor Higgins to do the right thing and veto this cruel, fiscally irresponsible ordinance.

Join our 8pm Tuesday July 28th FCARE zoom meeting. We'll plan the details of a protest rally and press conference at Miami City Hall to publicly -- and loudly -- urge Mayor Higgins to veto this terrible new law!

“The direct administrative cost of jailing a person is about 300% of the daily cost of housing them,” said Peery during a phone call after the meeting. “Criminalization is really an expensive way to make homelessness worse. Trying to make a social justice issue into a criminal justice matter is entirely inappropriate.”

FCARE is proud to endorse Rob Piper for Miami-Dade County Commission, District 5.

Our endorsements are about more than a name on a ballot. We look for leaders who understand that racial equity, economic justice, accountable government, and strong communities are connected — and who are prepared to do the work alongside the people they hope to represent.

Rob has been part of that work with us. He has shown up, listened, contributed, and demonstrated a real commitment to building a Miami-Dade where every community has a voice and where government works for people — not simply for those with the greatest access or influence.

As a Marine Corps veteran, CPA, Ph.D., community advocate, and a member of the FCARE family, Rob brings both experience and a deep sense of public service to this race.

We know the difference between someone who asks for our support at election time and someone who has already been standing beside us.

Angie will talk about current hot political issues and her campaign for US Senate. We'll also debrief the July 9th Miami City Commission Meeting and plan for the September 26th Homeless Solidarity Sleepover.
