The Foundation for Public Education is proud to support MES PROBE with funding for their Savannah Tour!
PROBE Advisor Mrs. Laura Lott is pictured accepting the check from Foundation Chair Mr. Allen Lanier. The students were incredibly grateful for this opportunity and even shared heartfelt thank-you notes with the Foundation.
In their letters, students highlighted their favorite moments from the trip, including seeing a cargo ship on the Savannah River, learning about Tomochichi and James Oglethorpe, exploring Savannah’s statues and historic markers, riding the trolley, and visiting The Pirates’ House to learn about its tunnels.
One student, Levi, even shared that without the Foundation’s support, he would have had to go to the Atlanta races instead—so we’re especially glad we could help make this experience possible! 😎
The PROBE students have been diving into the study of civilizations, with a focus on capital cities as their final lesson.
First and second grade students traveled to Georgia’s first capital, Savannah, to bring their learning to life. They explored how some capitals grow naturally over time—like Paris—while others are carefully planned, like Washington, D.C.
During their visit, students took a guided tour of Savannah, examining its famous squares and city layout to determine whether it was a planned capital. They wrapped up the day with lunch at The Pirates’ House, a historic site that was in operation even before our country was established!
Hands-on learning at its best! 📚✨
