🩷 Kindness was everywhere at Sanborn Elementary today! 🩷

The entire school gathered to hear from Connor's Kindness Project and Kindness for Colleen, who shared the importance of welcoming, including, and caring for others. Sanborn educators and students also celebrated a generous donation from the Ritzer Foundation to help bring Sanborn’s new playground to life.

As part of the program, every student took the Kindness Pledge, committing to help create a school community where everyone feels valued, supported, and included.

From inspiring messages to meaningful community support, it was a great day to see kindness in action! 🩷

Two weeks from today will mark 13 years since Colleen's tragic passing. Kindness for Colleen, created by Colleen's friend, Jen, brings some positivity to a very difficult day. It's a way to remember and honor Colleen in a fitting way: by performing random acts of kindness to remind the community that even on the darkest of days, there is still good. Thirteen years ago today, just 17 days before her tragic passing, Colleen tweeted these words to her students, having no idea the impact these words would have on so many, including those who love her and those who never met her, and words that would define her legacy. Finding the good in every day can be a challenge for many of us, as we continue to feel Colleen’s loss more each day. But her message reminds us that if we look hard enough and have hope, we can find something, no matter how small, that brings some good and light into the darkest of days – especially those moments when we are reminded of the positive, life-changing impact Colleen had on so many. May her message remind us all of Colleen’s goodness and inspire each of us to not only find the good but be the good for someone else, each and every day 🩷

Although we choose to remember Colleen for how she lived and not how she died, it is important today, on National Day for Remembrance for Murder Victims, that we take a moment to remember how she died and remember that we must continue to advocate for her and all victims of violence. We must continue to be their voices every day and hold those who commit these violent crimes accountable. Colleen, you are missed every day 🩷

On Monday, August 24, Danvers High School (DHS) held a dedication ceremony for the library that has been named in memory of math teacher Colleen Ritzer.

“In her short 24 years, Colleen has created a legacy that Danvers High School has fully adopted,” Julie also thanked all those involved but shared this special thank you, “But the truest thank you belongs to the Ritzer family, for raising an incredible daughter whose kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness continue to touch so many lives.” She continued: “And of course, to Colleen. Colleen once shared, ‘No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind’. Colleen, you did more than succeed in living those words. You have left a legacy, one that continues to inspire kindness, caring, and goodness not only in this community, but in communities far beyond your own.”
