Today, we are honored to announce something that has been on our hearts for a long time.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Mesquite Police Association and MPA Charities will host the Inaugural Service Above Self 5K & Fun Run.

This event is more than a race.

It is a promise that the lives and sacrifices of Officer Travis Williams and Officer Richard Houston II will never be forgotten.

It is an opportunity for our community to come together — not only to remember two fallen heroes, but to celebrate the spirit of service, sacrifice, and commitment they embodied every day they wore the badge.

Whether you run, walk, volunteer, sponsor the event, or simply stand along the course to cheer, you become part of something bigger than a finish line.

You become part of a new tradition dedicated to honoring those who gave everything in service to our community.

Answering The Call For One Of Our Own

Help a Mesquite Police Family Rebuild After a Lightning Strike

This morning’s severe storms had a devastating impact on one of our Mesquite Police families. After more than 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Mesquite, one of our officers had his home struck by lightning, causing significant damage and creating unexpected hardships for his family.

This family has dedicated their lives to serving our community. In addition to the officer’s more than 20 years of service with the Mesquite Police Department, his wife has also faithfully served the citizens of Mesquite as a police dispatcher for over 20 years.

The Mesquite Police Association Charities is asking our community, friends, family, and supporters to come together and help one of our own during this difficult time.

For more than two decades, this family has answered the call to serve our community. Today, we are asking our community to answer the call for them.

100% of donations received through the Mesquite Police Association Charities for this effort will be provided directly to the officer and his family to assist with immediate needs and recovery expenses.

This past weekend, members of the Mesquite Police Association proudly represented the Mesquite Police Department in the 2026 GUNS & HOSES Foundation of North Texas Hockey Tournament as part of both the Richardson Rage Hockey Team and the Dallas Knights.

First photo from left to right: Officer Wilson, Officer Sales, and former Mesquite Police Officer LeBaron, who now serves with another agency and remains a valued member of our law enforcement family.

Over the course of three games, these players contributed 6 goals, 2 assists, and 8 total points for the Richardson Rage.

Lieutenant Mitchell and Officer Smith went on to capture the Public Safety Gold Division Championship with the Dallas Knights.

At the end of the day, however, this tournament is about much more than what happens on the scoreboard.

The Guns & Hoses Hockey Tournament brings together first responders from across North Texas to compete, build friendships, strengthen interagency relationships, and support charitable causes that directly impact members of the public safety community. Events like this serve as a reminder that while we may wear different uniforms and work for different agencies, we are united by a shared commitment to serving others.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Richardson Rage organization and the Dallas Knights organization who welcomed our members onto their roster. Thank you for your hospitality, partnership, and for providing our officers the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful event.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Mitchell, Officer Wilson, Officer Sales, Officer Smith, and Officer LeBaron for law enforcement with pride both on and off the ice. We are grateful for the friendships, teamwork, and sense of brotherhood that events like this help foster throughout the law enforcement community.

Today, we join our community and nation in observing Memorial Day.

We pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their selflessness, courage, and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

As law enforcement officers, many of whom have also served in the military, we understand the profound weight of the oath to protect and serve. We stand in solidarity with the families of our fallen heroes, holding them in our thoughts today and every day.

As you spend time with family and friends this weekend, please join us in taking a moment of silence to remember the true meaning of this day.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 🇺🇸

Today, we honor and celebrate the dedicated men and women of law enforcement during National Police Week. It’s a time to recognize their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to keeping our communities safe. Join us in expressing gratitude to those who serve and in remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Sgt. Paul Wathen of the Mesquite Police Departmenthas demonstrated an exceptional commitment to DWI enforcement and roadway safety throughout Mesquite and North Texas. As one of only a limited number of Drug Recognition Expert Instructors in Texas, Sgt. Wathen has played a critical leadership role in strengthening the department’s DWI enforcement program. Through his dedication, training, and mentorship, the department has experienced a tenfold increase in annual DWI arrests, greatly enhancing public safety. He was also instrumental in implementing the department’s 100% No-Refusal DWI policy, reinforcing accountability and helping remove impaired drivers from the roadways.

MADD Texas extends its sincere appreciation to Sgt. Paul Wathen for his unwavering commitment, professionalism, and service. We recognize and deeply value your dedication to the safety and well-being of our communities.

Our goal, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, is to reduce crashes, injuries, and deaths on Texas Roadways. Join us in our mission to create a safer community.

They say a partner is someone who has your back without a second thought. For four years, Mesquite Police Department K9 Kozmo was exactly that, a fierce protector wrapped in loyalty.

​Five years have passed since that tragic day, but the halls of the department and the hearts of our officers still feel the weight of his absence. Kozmo didn't just "work" here; he lived for the job, for his handler, and for the safety of every citizen in .

​We don’t just remember the stats today. We remember the wagging tail at the start of a shift and the fearless courage he showed at the end of it.

​Rest easy, brave boy. Your brothers and sisters at the Mesquite Police Association will never let your name fade. 🐾🕯️

Our Mesquite Police Department Dispatchers are the lifeline between our community and first responders – working tirelessly, often without recognition, to keep everyone safe.
