REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT!
The great Pete Marivich carried a basketball everywhere he went and he practiced the exercises his dad gave him over and over until he had perfected them. Pete was a GREAT basketball player and later in life became a believer and never stopped giving his testimony until he died!

The best way to learn things and to become good at something is to repeat it over and over and over and over! It never gets old for me to tell believers WHO they are in Christ AND who CHRIST IS IN THEM! Paul tells the church in Philippi this,
Phil. 3:1 "Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe."

He is saying "REJOICE"! REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS AND AGAIN I SAY REJOICE!!!!
Phl 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice."

Rejoice means to be glad, joyful and happy! To take delight in, or pleasure and elation in! You see when we rejoice the focus is off of us and on Christ! When its on Christ we think of Life, salvation and heaven! We have no fear because where we are now as well as where we will be after we pass from this life is with Jesus,
IN HEAVEN, REJOICING AND PRASING OUR LORD JESES!!!! AMEN AND AMEN!!!

Today Robin and I celebrate 45 years of marriage, that unbelievable according to today's standards. I have heard of some having 70 years together, so we are just getting started, I guess.

Some old celebrities in the movies have been married 7 or 8 times. They seem to never be satisfied and always looking for someone to fill that empty hole. They have missed out on so much, I think.

Marriage is hard sometimes but well worth it if you can stay together. This is not to pick on anyone who has been divorced but just saying that a good marriage is worth fighting for. I think most of us desire a lasting relationship but fail when it gets hard or does not fit "my" needs!

John says this
1Jo 4:8 "1Jo 4:8...for God is love.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us."

God is Love and He loved us and because He is IN us, we too can love one another, and His love is perfected in us!

The key to a lasting marriage is loving the other person MORE than yourself!
In Christ Love!

OLD AGE!
I have seen a lot of seniors (55+} struggling with mental and physical health, Yet I have also seen the opposite where they are into their 80's, 90's and even 100's and doing well. My father-in-law is 95 and lives alone, goes fishing and hunting and seems to be striving. Although I think that is a little rare, I still see more and more centurions around too!

As I get older and my body and mind are slower and not as good, I am reminded of Moses! Moses lived to 120 years of age, and his mind was just as strong as when he was young.
Deut. 34:7 "And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated."

WOW!!! If there was a guarantee of life without sickness or pain, I think we all would like to be like Moses in some ways. But we are not guaranteed that and so we must be content with our health situations as they come to us.

I think the best thing to tell ourselves as we get older and struggle is what Paul said in
Phil. 1:23 "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:"
AND
Col 3:15 "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."
AND
Phil 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice."
1Th 5:16 "Rejoice evermore."

So, keep this in mind as you get older and closer to that day when we will depart from this world.
Let us rejoice, be thankful and look forward to being with Christ someday!

GOOD ADVICE FOR PASTORS!
I know a pastor that has lost over 90% of his church because of what looks like immorallaty and financial indesrections. Even if they havn't been totally proven they can still come back to bite you!

The bible says in 1Th 5:22 "Abstain from all appearance of evil".
Even the "appearance" of evil can have GREAT consequesnces.
In business the leader can be morally bankrupt but a pastor cannot . He must lead by being Godly and morally on point! This doesn't mean he won't fail or sin in areas but those areas will be checked and double checked over and over by his congregation and outsiders!

Pastors have a hard job, and Peter gives a few things to think about...
1Pe 5:1 "The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock".

The pastor should "FEED" meaning preach and teach them the word! He should disciple and counsel them one on one as well as group time. Sundays are good but shouldn't be the only time. There are times to teach by example as well as in everyday work. Spend time eating and getting to know them. Those potlucks can be a great way of bringing unity in the body.

The pastor should lead without constraint meaning not by force or harshly. This attitude comes from cults and especially strange denominations and doctrine.

Pastors should lead willingly which means voluntarily loving and caring for those that come to fellowship. It should not be for gain of power or money. This is why I believe so strongly in bi-vocational ministry. Bi-vocational means that the pastor works another job outside the church to pay for his family's needs. It shows the church that the pastor is not trying to "fleece" the church for money!

This is why I have raised my income through donations my entire ministry life. I never take a salary and do biblical Christian counseling while NEVER charging for counseling. We live by faith and always by donations. This is one way you can tell the difference of a business or ministry too.
Mathew 10:8..."freely ye have received, freely give".

Ministry is serving and pastors are called to serve! Let us ALL be willing to love and serve the Body of Christ.

COLOSSIANS 4:7-18
Greetings, Updates and Closings!
I have seen over and over the impact, shock and rejection that comes when greetings are not given or when updates and closings are not shared! It is a small thing and usually overlooked but it can be devasting at times.
We should address others kindly when we first see them as well as seek permission before we speak into their lives. We should update folks as much as possible so they can pray for us as well as know what's going on in our lives. Sharing life is important to a Christian community and sometimes closings can help with clarity and relationships.
Paul gives us these things in all his books, and they help us know a lot about the people of his time along with some understanding of what they went through. Be real, open and vulnerable at times with the body of Christ, especially the church you belong too. This gives them a chance to minister and help if they can. Let them know what is going on in your life after all most of us like others praying for us, don't we?
Col 4:7 "All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord: 8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts; 9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here. 10 Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;) 11 And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. 13 For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis. 14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. 15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. 16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea. 17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it. 18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen."

4 "S" Words!
There are 4 "S" words I find so important in 1 Peter 5. Peter uses these "S" words to encourage the Jews who will and are suffering tremendously!
1Pe 5:10 "But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you."
The first "S" word is suffering!
None of us likes to suffer but it is a part of life. We can suffer physically, mentally and emotionally. We can suffer in marriage or in parenting or in social areas. We can also suffer for our faith when others attack our beliefs and stand in Christ alone.
Suffering does not seem good, but we can learn and grow in our faith when we suffer. Jesus also suffered and He earned from it.
Heb 5:8 "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;"
While knowing He would suffer, He was obedient to go through with the cross work AND to follow God the Father in obedience.
Phl 2:8 "And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
Heb 2:10 "For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings."
He always was obedient to God in all temptations and suffereings.

Now we can do the same by running to our Lord Jesus and God the Father in all physical and mental temptations. In all are sufferings and especially the suffering of our faith we can cast our cares upon Him..
1Pe 5:7 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."

Knowing He cares we can then be Stablished {established}, Strengthen and Settled! These words mean we will be fixed and established in, made stronger through as well as content and peaceful in Christ!

Always when you suffer in any way, run to the Lord and be Secure in Him!
