What is La Leche League?
La Leche League was started in 1956 by 7 moms who weren’t getting the information and support they needed for breastfeeding. They started meeting together and sharing what they knew and learning together and the group grew from there. Today, LLL is an international non-profit organization with thousands of members. Each group is led by LLL Leaders who have breastfed their own children and choose to help others do the same. At the meetings, mothers with babies and children of all ages talk about breastfeeding.. sharing ideas, struggles, and about parenting in general. We discuss many things, and everyone’s perspective is welcome. A LLL Leader is present to lead conversation and share La Leche League’s philosophy.
All group meetings and support from LLL Leaders are FREE. Paid membership is available to those who want to support the group financially (LLL Leaders have yearly dues they must pay to stay affiliated with LLL). There are also group jobs for mothers who want an active role with the group!
