Cropped out of history?

Below are two images taken minutes apart after the battle of San Juan Hill, on or about July 3, 1898. The images, both depicting US Army victors on Kettle Hill, are all but identical with one major exception. The top image has cropped out any sign of the 10th U.S. Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers depicting only Theodore Roosevelt and the 1st Vol Cav also known as the Rough Riders.

The American press at the time conveniently overlooked the fact that the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th and 24th Infantry Regiments had actually done much of the heaviest fighting during one of most iconic battles of the Spanish American War.

The top image is credited to William Dinwiddie - Library of Congress website at (LOC # LC-USZ62-7626) and the bottom image, also Dinwiddie, Harper's Weekly - Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C. 20540 USA

God sure works in wonderful ways. It was not a coincidence that we all came together at this sacred place at this time.
We were so honored to have you take part in yesterday’s ceremony marking the 76th Anniversary of the US Landing on Iwo Jima and the 100 men who gave it all.
There were many of your comrades and ours standing at attention as they looked down from above.

We can’t begin to thank you enough. God bless you and all of the Buffalo Soldiers.
