SPCA MERCED We are dedicated to the Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) program. We actively participate in community events to spread this message.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the SPCA of Merced is to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals; to educate the public on the extreme importance of spaying and neutering in the effort to end overpopulation and euthanasia due to rampant overpopulation; to promote responsible adoption of animals to loving and permanent homes. We are dedicated to helping with large colonies, to the very best of our ability, and decreasing the birth of thousands of kittens into a unwelcoming and dangerous world. We are dedicated to helping the community understand the importance of not only the TNR of homeless cats, but the importance of spaying or neutering their own domestic pet. Our goal is to promote a world where people respect and love all cats and provide them with the compassionate care that they deserve.

We urgently need more foster homes. 🐾💛

Merced SPCA rescues animals from all types of situations every single day. Abandoned, injured, sick, orphaned, found wandering the streets, and animals who simply have nowhere safe to go.

Right now, we need more people willing to open their homes and help us care for them.

Some fosters need bottle feeding. 🍼
Some need medical recovery.
Some need time to feel safe again.
Some just need a warm bed, regular meals, and someone to love them.

And you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. Merced SPCA provides the supplies and support you and your foster animal need. ❤️

You provide the safe space, time, patience, and love. We provide the supplies and work with you throughout the foster process.

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, please consider applying. We need foster homes now.

PLEASE STOP DUMPING ANIMALS. 🚨

This has to stop.

Every week we respond to another heartbreaking call. Tiny kittens left in boxes. Senior cats abandoned in parks. Mothers and babies dumped along roadsides, in creeks, outside businesses, and left to die.

California Penal Code § 597s
Animal abandonment isn’t just heartbreaking…it’s against the law.

If you can’t keep your pet, please surrender them to a rescue or shelter. Reach out. Ask for help. There are people willing to help.

A common myth is that cats and dogs can simply survive outside.

They can’t.

Pets who have spent their lives in a home don’t know how to hunt, where to find clean water, how to avoid predators, traffic, disease, or the extreme heat. They were never meant to be abandoned.

Merced SPCA has already saved well over 100 abandoned cats and kittens from the streets this year alone, and that number continues to rise.

If you witness someone dumping an animal, say something. Report it to Merced SPCA, your local police department, animal control, or animal welfare agency. Your call could save a life and help hold the person responsible accountable.

They trusted humans.
It’s time to stop failing them.

🛒 WISHLIST WEDNESDAY 🐾

Every week, there are supplies behind the scenes that help us care for the animals who need us. ❤️🐾

From food and litter to kitten formula, cleaning supplies, enrichment, foster supplies, and the everyday items that keep rescue operations moving, our wishlist helps turn community support into things our animals can use right away.

Merced SPCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue that is 100% donation-funded. We don’t receive regular funding from somewhere else to purchase the supplies we need. We are powered by YOU. ❤️

Every item purchased from our wishlist helps us continue caring for animals throughout Merced, from the 100+ community cat colonies we provide care for, to kittens in foster homes, animals coming into rescue, and the cats and dogs who need supplies while they wait for their forever homes.

Sometimes kindness looks like a bag of food, a container of litter, or a can of formula sitting on a shelf waiting for the next animal who needs it. 🐱🐾

Every item makes a difference.

Want to help us stock the rescue? Check out our wishlist and send a little something our way. ❤️

They donated the cutest basket for our raffle AND generously donated bags of pet food for our adopters to take home with their newly adopted pets! How amazing is that?!✨

From all of us at Merced SPCA Animal Rescue, and especially the cats and dogs whose lives are touched by your kindness… THANK YOU, ARMSTRONG PET WORLD! 🐾

Sometimes the best reunions happen in the most unexpected ways.

A Merced SPCA volunteer’s home recently became a very important stop for a missing cat named Oliver.

Oliver had gotten out of his home, and while he was missing, he made his way on the porch of a Merced SPCA volunteer’s house. He looked like an older gentleman who could use a little help, so Frank and Sandy set up a cozy little spot for him with food, water and a safe place to rest while they figured out what to do next.

The next day, a woman arrived in the area searching for her beloved 20-year-old cat. She had flyers and had been looking everywhere for Oliver. She was understandably worried.

And then she noticed the Merced SPCA logo on the volunteer’s vehicle.

She asked if they were looking for a cat.

They were. And it turned out she had found exactly the right house. ❤️

Oliver had a tracking collar, and his family had been following his location. Somehow, this sweet old boy had managed to make his way straight to the home of a Merced SPCA volunteer.

Even better? Oliver wasn’t the only one waiting for him at home. His three-legged rescue dog sibling, Bruce, had been missing his best friend terribly. 🥹

After all the searching, flyers and worry, Oliver was finally back where he belonged.

We think Oliver deserves some credit here, too.

Out of every porch in town, he picked the rescue volunteer’s house. 🐈

And honestly? We’re not sure if that was luck or if this old boy knew exactly what he was doing.

Welcome home, Oliver. ❤️
