SPCA MERCED We are dedicated to the Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) program. We actively participate in community events to spread this message.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the SPCA of Merced is to promote the prevention of cruelty to animals; to educate the public on the extreme importance of spaying and neutering in the effort to end overpopulation and euthanasia due to rampant overpopulation; to promote responsible adoption of animals to loving and permanent homes. We are dedicated to helping with large colonies, to the ver

y best of our ability, and decreasing the birth of thousands of kittens into a unwelcoming and dangerous world. We are dedicated to helping the community understand the importance of not only the TNR of homeless cats, but the importance of spaying or neutering their own domestic pet. Our goal is to promote a world where people respect and love all cats and provide them with the compassionate care that they deserve.

We urgently need more foster homes. 🐾💛

Merced SPCA rescues animals from all types of situations every single day. Abandoned, injured, sick, orphaned, found wandering the streets, and animals who simply have nowhere safe to go.

Right now, we need more people willing to open their homes and help us care for them.

Some fosters need bottle feeding. 🍼
Some need medical recovery.
Some need time to feel safe again.
Some just need a warm bed, regular meals, and someone to love them.

And you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. Merced SPCA provides the supplies and support you and your foster animal need. ❤️

You provide the safe space, time, patience, and love. We provide the supplies and work with you throughout the foster process.

Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day 🐈🧡

Orange cats come in all shades, patterns, personalities, and levels of absolute nonsense. 😂

Ginger cats are known for being confident, chaotic, affectionate little weirdos… and yes, the orange cat brain cell is currently still being shared…

But behind all that orange floof are cats who need the same things every cat deserves: a safe home, proper veterinary care, spay/neuter, and someone who will love them for life. 🧡

So today, appreciate an orange cat.
Give one a treat.
Tell one they’re handsome.
And if you have an orange menace at home… please tell them we said they’re doing an excellent job. 😂

When You Help Us, You Help Them. ❤️

Since 1969, the Merced SPCA has been working right here in our community to rescue abandoned, injured, and stray animals from local streets and help give them a safer future.

For animals who cannot be rehomed, we provide managed care throughout Merced — including daily feeding, medical care, trapping, spaying, neutering, and vaccinations.

But right now, we need our community more than ever.

Since 2024, we have seen a nearly 70% decrease in monetary donations, while veterinary bills, colony care, and foster expenses continue to rise.

The Merced SPCA is completely funded by donations and small grants. We are a volunteer-run organization, which means 100% of our revenue goes toward the animals and the programs our community depends on. 🐾

And the need is enormous.

In 2025 alone, your local Merced SPCA:

🐈 Cared for 80 community cat colonies through feeding, medical care, and surgeries
🐈 TNVR’d 120 cats — trap, neuter, vaccinate, release
🏠 Supported 78 foster animals with spays/neuters, vaccines, and medical care
✂️ Provided 650 low-cost spay/neuter services for community pets
❤️ Funded 17 life-saving surgeries for cats and kittens
🌈 Provided 10 euthanasia/cremation services of beloved pets through our Rainbow Bridge Program
🥫 Used 10,000 pounds of cat food to feed more than 650 street animals

And those numbers represent real animals.

The cat waiting for food tonight.
The kitten who needs surgery.
The stray who needs to be trapped and fixed.
The foster who needs medical care.
The family pet whose owner desperately needs an affordable spay or neuter.

Our resources are getting dangerously close to being depleted.

We cannot do this without you.

Abandonment doesn’t always look like someone leaving a box of kittens on the side of the road. 🚨🐾

Sometimes abandonment looks like moving away and leaving a cat behind.

Sometimes it’s opening the door and hoping an indoor cat will “figure it out.”

Sometimes it’s leaving an unwanted litter somewhere outside because someone doesn’t know what else to do.

Sometimes it’s giving an animal away without knowing who is taking them.

And sometimes it’s simply deciding that because an animal can survive outside, they don’t need us anymore.

These situations may look different, but the result can be the same: an animal left without the care, love and protection they depend on.

And abandonment isn’t something to take lightly. Willfully abandoning an animal is against California law.

Merced SPCA responds to animals from all types of situations, but rescue is only one part of preventing abandonment. Spaying and neutering, responsible pet ownership, TNVR, colony caretaking, education, fostering, and helping people find resources before they reach a crisis all play a role.

If you can no longer care for an animal, please reach out before leaving them behind. Contact Merced SPCA or your local animal welfare organization and ask what options may be available.

And if you see an animal who has been abandoned, don’t simply assume someone else will handle it.

You are someone.

Rescue doesn’t always begin with someone picking up an animal. ❤️🐾

Sometimes rescue starts with a phone call.

Sometimes it’s a person noticing a sick cat in their neighborhood.

Sometimes it’s someone deciding to spay and neuter their outdoor cats.

Sometimes it’s a colony caretaker asking for help.

Sometimes it’s a foster opening their spare room.

Sometimes it’s a volunteer agreeing to drive an animal to the vet.

And sometimes it’s someone simply seeing an animal in need and refusing to walk away.

At Merced SPCA, our work goes far beyond individual rescue cases. We support TNVR, community cat colonies, caretakers, fosters, adoptions, rescue operations, and education because preventing suffering is just as important as responding to it.

You don’t have to pull an animal from the street to be part of rescue.

You can volunteer. You can foster. You can help with TNVR. You can support a colony. You can donate supplies. You can educate your neighbors. You can share our posts.

There are countless ways to make a difference.

Rescue is not one person saving one animal.
It’s a community choosing to care.
