Remember Penny, the kitten rescued from a storm drain by Emergency Services?

We're so thrilled to share that she has had an amazing transformation in foster, and is ready for her forever home!
After a turbulent start in life, she has been letting loose, learning to love and keeping her foster family on their toes!
They describe her as the most playful kitten they've ever seen! Seemingly making up for lost time, Penny spends her days playing with her favorite string toy, and exploring the house. As all cats do, she can be playfully mischievous. And usually tires herself out by chasing her tail before cuddling up with her family for the night!

We are so grateful for everyone who has contributed and followed along with Penny's incredible story of survival, now let's get her into a forever home!

🚨Kitten in a storm drain: a fight for survival 🐈‍⬛

Beginning on Sunday, residents of a local apartment complex began hearing cries coming from a storm drain. After spotting a kitten among the garbage, they threw food down the pipe and hoped she'd find her own way out.

Sadly, Monday and Tuesday brought extreme temperatures, exposure and uncertainty.

Thanks to a few concerned residents, on Wednesday, Randolph Animal Control and the Dover Police Department were dispatched. Dover Fire made access to the catch basin and a trap was set. Unfortunately with the severe weather forecast for Wednesday night, the decision was made to pull the trap, as to not risk flooding and trapping the kitten.
Early Thursday morning, our ACO checked in and was able to gain a visual of the kitten. She appeared scared but in relatively good health. Determined to pull her to safety, Dover Fire and Police were requested.

The kitten was bouncing between two drain covers, in a pipe around the corner from the original catch basin. Unable to safely reach her, we requested specialized assistance from the Picatinny Arsenal Fire Department and Morris County Sheriffs Office.

Like a well oiled machine, Police, Fire and Animal Control worked together to try different techniques. The Sheriff's ESU utilized a long pole,specialized cameras and even a robot to try to coax her out. The Fire Departments came up with an idea to spray a gentle stream of water down the pipe, using a specialized nozzle, to push her off the ledge she was on.

Finally, after 24 hours of rescue attempts, Animal Control was able to scoop her up and bring her to safety.
We rushed her to American Animal Hospital, where they treated her for dehydration, fever, and a severe eye infection. Thankfully, they cleared her to go into a medical foster, where she can start the long journey of recovering from her ordeal.
We are so grateful to Dover Police, Fire and Picatinny Fire and the Morris County ESU for dedicating their time to safely, efficiently and professionally rescuing our kitten.
