Have you heard of Community Health Assessments?

They can do more than catalog problems... they can help us invest in the everyone needs to thrive, like humane housing and connection to community.

When community partners come together like they have in the Tri-County region, the impact is even greater.

Tune in to on Thursday morning to hear Jason A. Schulist and David DeGrood discuss how data is being used to set priorities and drive cross-sector partnerships (rather than just producing another report)!

The newest American Community Survey data is NOW LIVE! 🎉 These 5-year estimates offer the most current, neighborhood-level view of population, economic, housing, and social conditions and support local planning, assessments, and community investments.

Unlike earlier releases that were significantly affected by pandemic-related disruptions to data collection, this 2020–2024 dataset provides a new baseline for understanding the long-term impacts on economic stability, housing affordability, and community wellbeing. That means better comparisons over time and more confidence in the trends you’re seeing.

Want to dig into what this means for your community and how to use the data effectively?

Check out this webinar from our partners at Metopio to walk through the release, explore examples, and get practical tips on applying ACS insights in your work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2UCtlxpoLI&t=208s

Getting from A to B should be easy for everyone. Yet many people face daily barriers when reliable transportation is unavailable.

The Index weighs transit, commuting, walkability, and related factors to produce a 0–100 score. Higher scores (dark blue on the map) reflect better overall access and housing stability in a given area.

Index created via local partnership with Lawrence University Professor Andrew Sage and Summer Research Fellow Dereje Po***ck. Data selection based on concepts, as defined by The Rippel Foundation.

What neighborhoods would you test next, and how could policymakers use this index to improve access and opportunity?

Can housing conditions be summarized in a single number? Absolutely not, but we tried anyway!

In the Human Housing Index, data on affordability, safety, diversity, and more were weighted based on relevance and scored against national benchmarks to produce scores 0 to 100. Higher numbers (corresponding to the areas in darker blue) have more favorable housing conditions.

The concept of Humane Housing, part of the

is vital for community health and stability. 🏘️ 🏡 🏘️

As prices rise, many families find homeownership out of reach. Amy McGowan shares, "Housing is getting more expensive for everyone, but it's especially unattainable for lower income families. The average age of first-time buyers is now 40, which is unacceptable. Families need places to build stability and independence."

is proud to support the work of Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity by providing data to guide local initiatives.
