UPDATE: Tennessee is about to take life-saving healthcare away from seriously ill children.
Here’s a letter that families are about to receive:
“This letter is to inform you that based on our records, due to the current immigration status of your child, if Children’s Special Services program keeps paying for healthcare after June 30, 2026, the Tennessee Department of Health will share your child’s information to the Tennessee Department of Safety, as required by law.”
Children’s Special Services has been a specialized program for very ill children that has had bipartisan support for over half a century. It’s targeted for the sickest children who have no other access to care.
The program is for children with severe medical conditions such as cancer, cystic fibrosis, congenital heart conditions, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders, diabetes, etc. You must have a serious condition to qualify and not have any other way to get care.
Tennessee is the only state in the country denying care to children in this specialized program.
