Happy 7th Gotcha Day, Mini!
Seven years ago, if you knocked on Mini’s front door in Mississippi, there was a good chance you’d end up off the porch. The second that door opened, she barreled out and took off on an adventure of her own.
Her owner had nine children and homeschooled all of them, so there were ten people in the house all day and the door was always opening. With no fenced yard, Mini took every chance she got. When the woman was given our name, she asked if we could help with Mini and her nine-year-old yellow Lab, Buddy.
Both dogs were very thin, and Mini was 45 pounds underweight. She had been bought for breeding and had never been spayed or vaccinated, but fortunately she was heartworm negative. We got both dogs spayed, neutered, and up to date on everything.
Buddy had lived all nine of his years with one family. Then a boy outside Chicago who had never had a dog came along, and at nine years old, Buddy became somebody’s first. After a lifetime in a house full of people, he went home to a fenced yard of his own and a boy who became his best friend.
For Mini, we invited everyone interested to come meet her and let her choose. Carleigh and Chris, who lived a few blocks from me, walked over, and Mini let us know right away. These were her people.
Seven years later, her people have grown. Sebastian is three and a half and uses her as his favorite pillow. Colette is six weeks old, and Mini is right there keeping an eye on her. She’s even in on the family Halloween costumes.
The girl who used to bolt out the front door is 150 pounds now, and the only place she wants to be is right in the middle of her family.
