Join the largest neighborhood association in downtown for our Annual "Meal on Main" - A community dinner hosted right on Main Street in Downtown Memphis!

The Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) of Memphis is proud to announce the 2nd Annual “Meal on Main”, set for Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 5:00–8 PM. This one-of-a-kind community dinner will transform Main Street between MLK Jr. Avenue and Pontotoc Avenue into a vibrant, open-air dining room complete with long rows of tables draped in crisp white linens, elegant white chairs, and glowing overhead string lights.

The evening’s menu will be prepared by acclaimed Chef Jimmy Gentry of The Lobbyist, a celebrated Downtown restaurant located right on the event block. Guests will enjoy a curated dining experience featuring two chef-prepared protein options with sides, cooked over an open flame on Main Street itself.

The celebration begins with a Social Hour, sponsored by Red Bull, from 5-6PM, featuring discounted cocktails and live music. Dinner will be served at 6PM. Event will wrap up at 8pm.

“Meal on Main is more than just a dinner—it’s a celebration of all we’ve accomplished together as neighbors this year. As we gather at one long table, we’re reminded of the strength, pride, and unity that make our downtown community so special. What better way to close out a year of success with the Downtown Neighborhood Association than by breaking bread together under the lights of Main Street?” said Jerred Price, President of the Downtown Neighborhood Association.

The former IKEA property in Memphis has a new owner! Living Spaces, a California-based furniture and home furnishings retailer, has purchased the former IKEA location, bringing new life to the massive retail property.

Founded in Southern California, Living Spaces has grown into a major home furnishings retailer offering furniture, mattresses, home décor and more.

The closure of IKEA left a significant hole in the Memphis retail landscape, so it’s encouraging to see another major retailer investing in the property and the Memphis market.

#𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜𝘿𝙤𝙬𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙣𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙 | DNAmemphis.org ~ Developer Billy Orgel told the Memphis City Council on Tuesday, Oct. 6, that the $270 million redevelopment of 100 N. Main St. is facing a substantial funding shortfall.

According to Orgel, the project currently has a financing gap of approximately $13 million to $14 million. While he did not make a formal request for additional city support during Tuesday’s discussion, his remarks highlighted broader concerns about the condition of Downtown Memphis and the difficulty of financing major redevelopment projects there.

The City of Memphis has already invested millions of dollars to acquire 100 N. Main and has committed to leasing space in the redeveloped building for city employees.

During his remarks, Orgel pointed to several prominent vacant Downtown properties, including the Sterick, Raymond James and Dermon buildings, as examples of the challenges facing the city’s central business district.

To help close the gap at 100 N. Main, Orgel said the development team is working to raise additional equity while incorporating more tax credits into the project’s financing package. He explained that part of the shortfall resulted from unexpected costs associated with stabilizing the skyscraper’s existing parking structure — a structure the development ultimately may not use.

Orgel described the 100 N. Main project as having the potential to serve as a catalyst for Downtown, particularly as the area continues to contend with significant vacancies and limited new construction activity.

“The only three cranes I see Downtown now, I think, are in St. Jude,” Orgel told council members.

Council member Rhonda Logan encouraged Orgel to return to the council with a specific proposal and asked when he expected to be ready to do so. Following discussion with Logan and Council member JB Smiley Jr., Orgel said he could return with a formal request in approximately two weeks.
