This weekend Crew 245 was busy working out at D-bar-A Scout Ranch for the “Rifles and Ropes” Camporee. This event was planned and coordinated by one of our own.
Over a year ago Gillian, our 17yr old Crew President, decided she wanted to plan Camporee as one of her projects. She started developing “Rifles and Ropes”, wanting an event that can be enjoyed by all ages of scouts.
She overachieved.
This Camporee was originally estimated to have 300 and ended up with just under 600 registered for the event. Were there some hiccups? Of course, you can’t get double your original estimate without having to make some decisions on the fly. Our Crew was there to support her to the best of our ability. We had 8 of our own leaders and 13 of our Crew 245 members adding to the list of volunteer staff for the event. Even with a little rain, and having to move our campfire program indoors (again having to change events/plans on a moments notice) their was a lot of smiling faces.
Members from Cub Scout Packs, Scout Troops, Venture Crews, Sea Scout Ships……. members from all the different programs offered by the BSA came out and enjoyed age appropriate variations of these events:
Shooting Sports- BB gun, rifles, shotgun, archery
Rock climbing
Knot tying
Crafts
Trail Aid
Branding
Rope a Calf
(not a real calf 😂)
Scout Trivia
Horseshoe in a bucket
(also, not a real horseshoe)
Fire building contest
Dutch oven cook off….
And more!!
It was a great event, and a great weekend!!!
Thank you Gillian for all the time and effort you put into this event, and for letting us be a part of making your vision a reality.
