It is not unusual for a person with dementia to be depressed, apathetic, or unmotivated. Changes in the brain caused by disease can make it very difficult for a person to control their mood or self-motivate, and they may have less energy than they used to. Try to time activities during the parts of the day when they have most energy and try to stick to a routine as much as possible.

Join us Wednesday, September 16 at Temple Israel's Ettelson-Wax Hall for a full day of practical advice from various dementia care experts, including our keynote speaker Ashley Stevens, known as .

The conference is free for family caregivers caring for a loved one with dementia. Registration is required for all attendees and includes breakfast, lunch, goodies, and a chance to win a door prize.

There is a $50 fee for professionals working with those with dementia and their caregivers. Up to 5 Social Work CEUS can be earned.

Watermelon Popsicles

4 cups diced seedless watermelon
1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons honey - or to taste

In a blender, blend the watermelon, strawberries, lime juice, and honey until smooth and fully incorporated. Evenly pour the mixture into the popsicle molds and assemble, leaving about ⅓ inch gap at the top to allow for expansion. Freeze for at least 4-6 hours or preferably overnight.
