The Mediapolis Optimist Club recently held an essay contest for local youth on the topic of “How My Acts of Service Help Me Understand What My Community Means to Me.” The winner, Kolton Rosas, won a $250 prize from the club. His essay was also submitted to the Iowa District competition for a chance to win a $2500 college scholarship. Pictured are Korryn Vail, Mediapolis Optimist Club President, and Kolton. The club plans to host another essay contest this winter with a new topic and invite all youth to participate.

Calling all youth changemakers! Share your story of how serving your community has shaped your understanding of its significance in your life and inspire others with your passion and dedication. Write a 700-800 word essay on 'How My Acts of Service Help Me Understand What My Community Means to Me' for a chance to win cash prizes ranging from $100 to $250. First-place contestant will compete for a $2500 scholarship. This opportunity is open to all youth under 19 years old who have not graduated from high school.
