John L. Coats was a pivotal member of the AA community. He was right there when you needed someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, or just a place to sleep. He walked many through the steps and changed the lives of so many.

We miss you, John, we know you’re looking down and guiding those you love.

We have new resources available!!!!!

This is for the active addict. Those in active addiction face uncertainty with every high. We want to reduce that by providing resources such as free narcan option, test kits, syringes, and more.

I use to be superstitious, especially on Friday the 13th. I felt it was harder to cop those days, I had more missed shots, lost bags, you name it. 15 years later and I don’t live my life like that any more. That fear, like the fear of a yellow lighter, faded with recovery. I’m grateful for that.

We’ve added some big things and changed some minor details and information.

In a span of one week, we presented The Sunflower Award to Into The Neighborhood, and celebrated the memories of two souls (Matt and Liz) who were taken too soon.

One question we get asked often is why do we boost other nonprofits? That is our goal, to show you the resources out there that are available to you. We are a community and without one another we would be lost. Marti, for Into The Neighborhood has helped me so much with her insight; I am eternally grateful.

Additionally, we have been working, writing, and prepping for the next phase of our journey, and we are finally able to start accepting donations.

Two big things coming:
1. An actual donation link on FB, Instagram, and our website.
2. A store front where you can purchase merchandise, which will have a cost break down to show you how much of your purchase is going DIRECTLY to our grant programs.
3. First Cast: Every recovery begins with a first cast. This is 🎣 fishing tournament, one of the most calm and mediating activities out there that requires no drugs or alcohol to enjoy.

Things to look out for:
1. Community highlight where we introduce you to other resources you may not know about.

Spring has sprung, and so have we.

Wow. The number of sober living grant applications we received this week was incredible.

First — thank you. Reaching out for support takes courage, and we do not take that lightly.

We wish we had unlimited funds to help every single person who applied. The reality is that our resources are limited, and we must be thoughtful and responsible with every dollar entrusted to us.

If you submitted an application, you can expect a follow-up form between Friday (2/28) and Tuesday (3/3). Please keep an eye on your email and text.

We are reviewing every application carefully. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for trusting Addiction Aid Network during this part of your journey.

🌱 Now Accepting Applications: Peer Recovery Specialist Internship – Virginia 🌱

Are you passionate about mental health, substance use recovery, and supporting others through lived experience?

George Mason University’s Empowered Communities Program is offering a 9-month Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) Internship designed to prepare the next generation of Certified Peer Recovery Specialists.

✨ Program Highlights:
• Use your lived experience to support individuals in recovery
• 20 hours per week commitment
• $6,000 stipend
• Statewide in Virginia
• Virtual classroom training + in-person experiential hours
• CPRS exam preparation included

📅 Apply by May 15th
🎓 First Day of Class: August 12, 2026
