Exciting things are happening at the future site of Smith Drive Park! Since our groundbreaking on August 21st the heavy equipment has started moving dirt and shaping up the layout for construction. We anticipate cutting a ribbon for Phase 1 in May 2026 if all goes well!. Keep watching for updates and swing by the site to see for yourself!

I remain deeply committed to our community. I fully support our current Board’s well-rounded focus on safety, economic development, healthcare services, and recreational improvements which play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing quality of life for our residents.

Our overarching goal is to preserve and grow the high quality of life that Hampden Township is known for. To that end, we have launched several multi-year initiatives designed to build on our community’s strengths. Public safety remains our highest priority. Working closely with PennDOT, we successfully improved the intersection at Sporting Hill and the Carlisle Pike, and we continue to advocate for needed enhancements along Good Hope Road.

In partnership with our community, we have:
• Attracted new businesses, restaurants, and hotels, supporting local jobs and the economy
• Expanded healthcare services with the addition of new hospitals and medical facilities
• Revitalized and improved recreational facilities, including the township pool complex, Veterans Park, Srouji Park, and Armitage Golf Course
• Expanded our pedestrian and biking networks, adding trails and community connections
And we are far from finished. We’re actively working on:
• Continued safety advocacy along Good Hope Road
• Ensuring long-term sustainability for our Fire Department
• Further enhancements at Armitage Golf Course, including exterior upgrades to the restaurant facilities
• Development of a new 18-acre community park on Smith Drive
• Continuing our strong tradition of fiscal responsibility, including 48 consecutive years without a tax increase, made possible through the pursuit of external grant funding
I remain committed to working hard for our residents—ensuring safety, delivering high-quality services, and managing our budget responsibly.

My top three priorities are:
1. Safety – Enhancing infrastructure and first responder services to protect our community
2. Quality of Life – Expanding access to healthcare, shopping, dining, and recreation
3. Responsible Spending – Pursuing outside funding and maintaining strong finances without raising taxes

“What is the most important issue facing your municipality?”

As Township Commissioners, we believe the most important issue we face—day in and day out—is maintaining, protecting, and enhancing the overall quality of life for our residents and businesses.

People choose to live and work in our township because of the high standards we've established. They place their trust in us to ensure that this quality of life not only continues but improves. Failing to meet these expectations could erode that trust and lead to a decline in our community's desirability, with lasting consequences.

Rather than focus on a single, isolated issue, we must take a bird's-eye view of all factors that can impact our community—positively or negatively. We must be agile and responsive to both challenges and opportunities as they arise. These factors include safety, accessibility, emergency services, medical facilities, utilities, recreation, property values, and more. In an ever-changing world, threats to our current quality of life can emerge quickly, and it’s our responsibility to address and prevent them. At the same time, we must be prepared to seize opportunities that enhance our community’s programs and services before they pass us by.

Some of the most pressing challenges we are actively working to address include:
• Safety concerns along the Good Hope Road corridor
• Traffic congestion and speeding along Carlisle Pike, Creekview Road, and Wertzville Road
• The sustainability of our volunteer fire department
• Increasing costs of governance and regulatory compliance

At the same time, we are investing in projects that elevate our community’s offerings and reinforce our shared values. These include:
• The development of Smith Drive Park
• Expansion of walking and biking trails
• Enhancements to our community pool
• Continued improvements to our award-winning “Simply the Best” golf course

With limited land available for future development, we must take a strategic approach to comprehensive planning and redevelopment. Our goal is to balance the preservation of open space and property values with the need to attract businesses that provide valuable services and contribute to our revenue base.

We also recognize the importance of collaboration—with both for-profit and non-profit organizations—to provide solutions for:
• Affordable housing
• Accessible medical care
• Food security and basic needs
• Mental health services
• Veterans support and other community-based services

By keeping our focus on overall quality of life as the guiding principle, we can make more strategic decisions, anticipate impacts, and stay ahead of challenges before they escalate.
Our ultimate goal in Hampden Township is clear: to protect and strengthen our reputation as one of the most desirable communities in South Central Pennsylvania. Through proactive leadership and collaborative planning, we will continue to build a community where people are proud to live, work, and thrive.

If you are in the area, please consider joining us for our next fundraiser at Hampden Township's former municipal building. Come check out the renovations if you haven't seen them, and support your township commissioners. We would really appreciate it if you would spread the word so that we get a good crowd. This is a great opportunity for voters to meet with us to discuss topics of interest and issues that are on their minds.
