When a voter-approved anti-corruption measure is undone so quickly after a single lawsuit — and the attorney involved and plaintiff have ties to city leadership — people are going to demand accountability.

Join us in sending a letter to McALLEN city commissioners expressing your disapproval and demanding more transparency on this issue.

On Wednesday, December 11th, Ground Game Texas sent a demand letter to the McAllen City Secretary regarding the City Commission’s failure thus far to enter an order adopting Propositions A and B.

Will the McAllen City Commission do their job and implement Props A & B before the end of the year?

**Update: City Commission has canceled tomorrow's meeting***
McAllen voters said YES to Props A & B! ✅️ But what does that process look like? If the City of McAllen follows a normal administrative process, then it should look like this.

On Friday at 12 p.m., the City Commission will begin step 1! If you're interested in this process, please join us at the McAllen City Hall.

McALLEN, TEXAS. Today, citizens of the city of McAllen voted for Propositions A and B, choosing increased access to the democratic process and an end to big money’s influence in local politics.

This victory is the result of the hard work of Ground Game Texas field staff, led by McAllen Campaign Manager Karen Salazar. In order to get Props A and B on the ballot, Karen led a team in collecting over 5,000 signatures from local residents. Our get out the vote effort led to decisive wins for both props, with A getting 56.32% of the vote, and B getting a stunning 66.91%.

With the passage of these two propositions – a $500 contribution limit, and initiative, referendum, and recall, respectively – elected officials will be accountable to the people, overall, and not just special interests, bringing McAllen’s policies in line with many other Texas cities.

“Despite increasingly desperate attacks from our opponents, the people of McAllen stood up and chose democracy today. As someone who calls the RGV home, this victory is personal to me, and I’m looking forward to continuing to organize with my neighbors. Together, we have the power to transform Texas border politics.” – Karen Salazar, McAllen Campaign Manager, Ground Game Texas

“This victory proves once again that community-led organizing works. McAllen residents told us they were tired of corruption in local politics and wanted to have a greater say in the democratic process, so we put it on the ballot. When you put forth progressive policies that people want, they vote for them. We are thrilled to continue our work with our team in McAllen as we look forward to implementing these propositions.” – Catina Voellinger, Executive Director, Ground Game Texas

💲This election is likely to cost the city less than their average city election, yet city officials continue to regurgitate the same lie.💲

We will not be fooled! McAllen residents deserve accountability and power in our communities!

Tuesday, November 5th is the last day to vote YES on Props A & B!🗳
