Show your love for your grandparents, grandfriends, or grandchildren by posting special notes and photos. Fill in the blanks in the statements below and share a picture with your grandparents, grandfriends, grandchildren, or other loved ones on social media, tag Generations United, and use the hashtag

Activities:

Commit to doing one of the grand activities listed below with your grandparents, grandfriends, grandchildren, or other loved ones. Remember to take a photo of the activity to share on social media, tag Generations United, and use the hashtag

Read a book with your grandfriends, grandparents, or grandfamily caregiver.

Take a walk together through your neighborhood or favorite park.

Share family stories of your favorite memories together, your family’s history, or look through a family photo album together.

Go for an outing as a family (i.e. dinner at a restaurant, to the movies, skating rink, hiking, amusement park, etc.).

Cook a meal together using your favorite family recipe.

Do an arts and crafts activity.

Have a virtual coffee or lunch date.

Participate in an in-person or virtual family game night.

Volunteer together in remembrance of 9/11 or attend a 9/11 memorial service event.

Gather in person as a family and share kind words to honor those grandparents, grandfriends or older caregivers who are no longer here. Afterward, plant a tree or flower seed at a park, family garden, or special location to amplify their remembrance.

Create a celebratory dance video with your family and friends.

Even those who are not on social media can participate in this too! From your own home, you can:

Write handwritten notes to your grandparents, grandfriends, or grandchild. Include in the envelope your favorite photos together.

Call or video chat with your grandchild, grandfriends, or other loved ones and convey the love and appreciation you have for them.

Bake healthy treats and deliver them to your grandchildren, grandfriends, or loved ones. Or, pop in for a visit and bake them together!

Honor 9/11 Day Through a Lifetime of Service

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a moment that forever changed our nation. As we reflect on that day, we honor the sacrifices made that day by the heroes, armed forces, first responders, and countless others’ whose acts of courage and service defended our nation’s freedom.

On the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Americans of all ages and backgrounds are invited to join and lead community service projects to honor the lives, legacy, and service of those we lost on 9/11. In this 25th anniversary year, honor the heroes by becoming a hero yourself and serve alongside neighbors and strangers alike to strengthen the bonds that hold our communities together.

The 9/11 Day of Service is Friday, September 11, 2026. As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, you and your networks are encouraged to engage with your community and create lasting impact while continuing the spirit of unity and service that has endured for 25 years.

About 9/11 Day

25 years ago on September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that took the lives of many and changed us forever. To honor the spirit of sacrifice shown that day and the ongoing sacrifices made by members of the armed forces and their families, we unite in service and volunteerism throughout our communities.

In 2002, families who lost loved ones began leading the effort to create a meaningful tribute to honor those they lost and those who stepped forward to serve our country in the aftermath. Their leadership resulted in the establishment of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance in April 2009, with AmeriCorps charged to support this effort nationwide.

Each year, AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors Programs works with 9/11 Day.org and with partners across faith-based, local, and national organizations to expand volunteer opportunities that honor the sacrifices of families affected by the events of September 11, 2001.

This year the Foster Grandparent Program of Comprehend, Inc. is collecting baked good and snack items and distributing them to our local First Responders as a "Thank You" for their everyday sacrifices and their ongoing commitment to the communities they serve. We invite you and your families to participate on 9/11 and throughout the month of September in remembrance of 9/11.
