**Reminder of upcoming event. Help us reach our goal of 200 pairs of shoes!! **

In 2026, America will mark a historic milestone - the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence - with a yearlong celebration led by America 250. This once-in-a-generation event isn’t just about looking back; it’s about shaping the future.
Through America Gives, an America250 initiative, communities nationwide will unite to make 2026 a record-setting year of volunteerism. Together with Founding Partners like AmeriCorps, America Gives will spotlight major service events and national days of service mobilizing millions to turn service into a lasting legacy for America’s Semiquincentennial.

The next major day of impact is Good Neighbor Day America. Good things happen when we show up for each other. On May 16, 2026, Americans across the country will serve their neighbors together on Good Neighbor Day America.

Our Foster Grandparent Program will be participating in this event by having a "Shoe Drive" that will support our local students. Instead of a one day event, we will be collecting shoes now through May 14th. All shoes that will be collected will be donated to the local school Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) to be distributed to students when needed throughout the school year.

If you have Gently Worn or New Youth size shoes you no longer need, give them a second life by donating to our shoe drive event! We are collecting Shoes Sizes Youth 1-6.

As we celebrate "National Volunteer Appreciation Week," we would like to say "Thank You" to each and every one of our Foster Grandparent Program volunteers. Our volunteers don't necessarily have the time to give since they are retired after all, but they definitely have big hearts that keep giving back to the students they serve every day!

This week we ask that if you see on of our Foster Grandparent Program volunteers at your school or out in the community, please let them know how much you truly appreciate all they do! ❤

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” — Leo Buscaglia
