We are looking for classroom volunteers!

Our Foster Grandparent Program is looking to enroll new volunteers for this school year! We know that everyone has questions about how to become a Foster Grandparent Program Volunteer, so here's the answers to most of the questions that we receive.

How do I qualify?
Every volunteer must be 55 years or older, like to be around kids, must pass a State, FBI and National S*x Offender Registry Background Check, and must qualify based off their household income.

What is the income guidelines?
The guidelines are set by the federal government for the AmeriCorps Seniors Programs. Applicants must have a household income of less than $31,920.00 (1-person Household) or less than $42,280.00 (2-person Household).

If I don't qualify based off the income guidelines, can I still volunteer?
Absolutely you can still volunteer! You wouldn't qualify for the stipend, but we would still love to have you!

What does a Foster Grandparent Program Volunteer do?
Each classroom volunteer tutors and mentors to students one-on-one in the classroom. We have volunteers in grades Preschool through High School, but mostly in the lower grades.

I'm retired, how many days do I have to volunteer?
Each volunteer is required to volunteer at least 5 hours a week, but up to 40 hours if they choose to. We find that most volunteers start out serving a few hours at first as new volunteers but always increase their hours since they enjoy volunteering in the classrooms.

Are there Men and Women Volunteers?
Yes! We have several Grandpa's/Papaw's and numerous Grandma/Granny's/Mamaw's who volunteer in our Foster Grandparent Program.

What kind of benefits will I receive?
Each volunteer who qualifies, receives a $4.00 per hour served stipend along with round-trip mileage reimbursement for each day served. The amount received throughout the year for volunteering is TAX FREE! Each volunteer also receives monthly MTO & PTO hours so they can take off when they have doctors appointments, are sick, on vacation, etc. Every volunteer will receive gifts at the two recognition events that are held twice a year and will receive one free meal at their school on the days they volunteer (at participating schools). We also offer free monthly trainings and our volunteers know that they can contact their director at any time with questions that they may have throughout the school year.

What Schools in Kentucky can I volunteer at with your Foster Grandparent Program?
We have classroom volunteers at the following schools:
Bracken County- Taylor Elementary School & Augusta Independent School
Fleming County- Hillsboro Elementary School & Ewing Elementary School
Lewis County- Tollesboro Elementary School, Central Elementary School, Laurel Elementary School and Garrison Elementary School.
Mason County- St. Patrick School, Mason County Intermediate School, Straub Elementary School an the YMCA Child Learning Center.
