🚨 Public Safety Advisory: Cychlorphine Detected in Kentucky 🚨

The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security warns that Cychlorphine, a highly potent synthetic drug approximately ten times stronger than fentanyl, has been detected in central Kentucky and is contributing to overdose deaths in neighboring regions, including eastern Tennessee.

This substance is frequently mixed with other illegal narcotics, placing users at extreme risk of unintentional exposure. Its presence is expected to expand to additional areas within the Commonwealth.

Advisory for First Responders, Healthcare Providers, and Law Enforcement Personnel:

* Exercise extreme caution when handling any unknown or illicit substances.

* Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent accidental exposure.

* Treat all suspected Cychlorphine-related overdoses as medical emergencies.

* Immediately report any confirmed or suspected cases to local public safety authorities.

The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security urges the public to remain vigilant, avoid contact with unknown substances, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

From the Executive Director Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy:
7-Hydroxymitragyine (“7-OH”) Schedule I Designation
In recent years, the marketplace has experienced a notable rise in synthetic and semi-synthetic 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) concentrates. These products often contain levels of 7-OH that are many times higher than those found in natural kratom. As a result, these 7-OH concentrates exhibit pharmacological effects more akin to potent opioid analogs rather than traditional botanical supplements. The presence of such high concentrations of 7-OH in these products increases the risk of dependence, respiratory depression, and adverse interactions. Furthermore, these products are frequently marketed without the necessary transparency concerning product content and purity or adequate warnings for consumers.
To address these concerns, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has designated 7-OH a Schedule I substance at a concentration level above 400 parts per million (ppm), or 0.04%, on a dry-weight basis. This approach preserves consumer access to natural kratom leaf and full-spectrum extracts that contain only trace amounts of 7-OH, which are considered lower risk. At the same time, it targets the high-risk synthetic or semi-synthetic concentrates that exceed the 400-ppm threshold.
This regulatory standard aligns with the provisions of Kentucky’s Kratom Consumer Act (KRS 217.2201 to KRS 217.2209), which requires that 7-OH remain below 2% of the total alkaloid content in any kratom product. Products that exceed this 2% limit or that contain synthetic alkaloids are legally classified as adulterated and are therefore prohibited from sale. These measures ensure that only natural or naturally consistent kratom products are allowed to remain in commerce.
