Our Story | 33 for Charity

33 for Charity is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit charity that was founded in 1973 on the following credo: "We are a group of unselfish men who come together twice a year for an afternoon of fellowship and camaraderie, in the spirit of Christian fellowship. We are dedicated to helping those, by deed and example, who are less fortunate than ourselves." The charter members were

Bruce Dickey, Bob Etchen, Dwight Kasten, Paul Richard, Dick Schlicting, Rollie Schmidt and Norm Sobecki. Norm Sobecki was the first president, or as he was so lovingly referred to as the group's Benevolent Dictator. Norm led the group for many years until Sam Viviano took over in 2001. Steve Malczewski took over for Sam in 2009 and continues to lead us today. In 2003, the Sobecki Award was established to honor Norm for his years of dedication to 33 for Charity. The award recognizes the member who is the overall winner of the previous year's golf and bowling events. In 2016, the 33 for Charity Endowment Fund was established to ensure the perpetual existence of 33 for Charity. A binding administrative plan for the fund is in place to accumulate principal in the fund, only a portion of the earnings will be distributed each year to support our charitable interests; once certain fund balances are achieved. Gifts accepted by the fund include, nut are not limited to cash, real estate, securities, simple (beneficiary) request, life insurance, charitable remainder trust and charitable lead trust options. In April 2020, 33 for Charity earned the Gold Seal of Transparency from GuideStar for our ongoing commitment for non-profit organization transparency. Since 1973, 33 for Charity has donated over $394,000 to local charities, groups, shelters, churches, schools and individuals. Through the generosity of its membership, our 2024 donation is $41,000!
