The following message is from Mark Chapman, president of the Ohio Federation of K9 Search Teams:
During the Federation business meeting on Sunday, May 12th we discussed the upcoming Federation/IPWDA evaluations which are scheduled to be held at Camp Friedlander November 7-10. Participant costs are undetermined as of this time due to a pending decision on a grant that Gloria Napier has applied for, as well as potential proceeds from fund-raising. There will be more information coming, hopefully within several weeks, regarding both of those matters.
In order to try and plan for the upcoming evaluations I’d like everyone who believes they may participate (this is in no way a commitment but rather will be used only to assist in planning) in the November evaluations submit the following information to me ([email protected]) by May 24th:
· Name of handler
· Name of K9 and what tests will they be pursuing certification for (trailing/air scent/land HRD/water HRD)
· If a handler anticipates certifying more than one K9 please submit the above for each
The reason we are doing this is because there are so many variables that impact the cost of holding the evaluations – such as:
· Number of tests – if we have more than 35 scheduled we’ll need to add a fourth instructor, which significantly increases our costs
· At this point in time we don’t know if we’ll get the grant, or how much they may give us. We’ve requested $8,000, but the actual award may be less.
Something we may have to consider is capping the number of evaluations at 35. If we do we’ll set up a waiting list for anything over that. Then, once we determine if we have money to cover a fourth evaluator we’d increase the number of evaluations and add people from the waiting list.
I’m requesting that team leaders make sure everyone on the team is aware of, and responds with the requested information.
