When scouts pursue the rank of Eagle Scout, they are required to do a project that provides benefit to the community. One of our scouts recently installed two additional vegetable beds at Temple Shalom. Our scouts have installed beds at this Temple as well as at Temple Beth Ahm. The vegetables at both Temples are provided to community members in need through local food pantries.

For the Eagle candidate, it is a chance to develop and plan a project from start to finish as well as provide leadership to those who come out to work on the project.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Robert J. Smith, Jr., a father to three Eagle Scouts, past Monmouth Council President, and a dedicated Scouter whose leadership strengthened our community for decades. Robert most recently served as VP, Corporate Governance, bringing the same integrity, steadiness, and commitment to service that defined his Scouting journey. His legacy lives on in the Scouts he mentored, the volunteers he inspired, and the values he championed throughout his life. We invite our Scouting family to keep his loved ones in their thoughts as we honor an extraordinary leader and friend.

🚨 Scouts BSA Advancement Updates Effective January 1, 2026

Planned improvements to Scouts BSA merit badge requirements take effect on January 1, 2026. These updates are designed to help Scouts explore modern career paths and hobbies, develop practical skills, and engage with current topics—while maintaining the quality and tradition of the Scouts BSA advancement program.

More than 80 merit badges have been thoughtfully updated based on feedback from Scout leaders, subject-matter experts, and current trends in technology, safety, and outdoor education.
