On Nov. 4, 2008 Massachusetts voters passed Question 2, which decriminalizes small amounts of ma*****na, with 65 percent of the vote. Approval of the ballot question made Massachusetts the 12th state to decriminalize possession of small amounts of ma*****na. The new law approved by the voters decriminalized the possession of an ounce or less of ma**
***na. Anyone 18+ caught with less than an ounce would be issued a $100 ticket and would forfeit the ma*****na. It will not show up in future background checks for employment, or applications for permits and licenses. On Nov. 2, 2010 voters in 73 Massachusetts cities and towns voted on a number of Public Policy Questions (PPQs) related to medical ma*****na and ma*****na legalization. Those towns and cities make up 18 state representative districts and account for about 12% of the state population. Under Massachusetts law, citizens can petition to put PPQs on the ballot. The non-binding votes are a signal to legislators of voter sentiment on a given issue in the district.
