Loudon Detachment

We had our second recruiting and camp forming meetup on May 30, 2025 at the VFW Post 5150 in Loudon, Tenn.

In attendance were Gary Wood, Hughston Burnheimer, Rich Holmes, John Cardwell, and Craig Brown.

I explained that this was a recruiting event to form a SUVCW Camp, and that I had submitted the required Request to Form a Camp to higher headquarters.

We discussed the purpose of the SUVCW, the relationship with National Headquarters and the Department of Tennessee that administers local area camps. We also discussed the special provision that allows camps to have local subdivided units of the camp; i.e., detachments.

I introduced the various camp officer positions required to conduct business.

Rich and Hughston respectively, detailed the Graves Registration and Civil War Memorials function of a camp.

The genealogy requirement of a hereditary member were discussed, as well as the provisions for associate members without a qualifying ancester.

Several areas of Civil War engagements were mentioned that occurred here.

We agreed to begin meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. in the VFW Post 5150 until further notice. The next meetup is scheduled for June 17, 2025.
