👋 Meet your OACAC Professional Development Co-Chairs!

Cassie Cunningham, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at The University of Akron, and Ashley Overman, College Access Supervisor at the Montgomery County Educational Service Center, are excited to lead OACAC’s Professional Development Committee!

The PD committee helps create opportunities for OACAC members to learn, connect, and grow throughout the year. From webinars and virtual programming to professional development initiatives and resources, we work to bring timely, relevant learning opportunities to colleagues across the profession.

And we’d love for YOU to be part of it! 🙌

We’re looking for OACAC members interested in volunteering with the Professional Development Committee. Ethical, fair recruitment means representing your institution as it truly is: the strengths, the expectations, and the realities of campus life. Avoid exaggerated claims or “too-good-to-be-true” outcomes, and don’t use urgency or fear to push students to apply or commit. Prospective students deserve clear, accurate information about programs, costs, support services, and typical outcomes so they can make confident, informed decisions about whether your school is the right place for them. 📣 Help shape the future of the OACAC College Counseling Certificate!

OACAC is seeking four members to serve on our new College Counseling Certificate Advisory Board and help guide the early planning of the 2027–2028 certificate.

Advisory Board members will have the opportunity to share their perspectives on the topics counselors want and need to learn more about, provide feedback on potential session ideas, and recommend presenters who can bring those topics to life.

We’re looking for current OACAC members with high school counseling experience and hope to bring together a variety of perspectives from across Ohio, including different regions, school types, and levels of professional experience. At least one position will be reserved for a newer professional with 0–5 years of experience.

🗓️ Short-term commitment from November to January
💻 Four virtual meetings
⏰ Approximately 3-4 hours total
🎓 3-4 contact hours for your service
📅 Apply by September 30!

OACAC members were well represented in Washington, D.C., at NACAC's Guiding the Way to Impact Conference last month!

Brenda Gerhardt and Ishan Thapa, who are members of OACAC’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Special Interest Group (AANHPI SIG), took their work to the national stage, presenting an educational session and sharing perspectives, strategies, and experiences with colleagues from across the country. Ishan also had the opportunity to contribute to a panel hosted by the NACAC AANHPI SIG.

We’re proud to see OACAC members learning, connecting, presenting, and representing Ohio within the national college admission counseling community. Thank you to all of our members who attended GWI and continue to bring what they learn back to their students, colleagues, and communities!
