Martinez Education Foundation MEF is a nonprofit community organization with an all volunteer board working to provide additional funding for our children at schools in MUSD.

The Martinez Education Foundation is a community-based partnership of energetic volunteers committed to providing resources to enhance educational opportunities for our children. MEF believes education is both an investment and a priority for the Martinez community. MEF provides funds for:

•Language Arts
•Physical Education
•Science
•Social Studies
•Special Education
•Voca

History: In the Fall of 1982, the inability of the Martinez Unified School District to fund an innovative classroom project at the junior high school sparked a search for supplemental funds. The Board of Trustees directed the Superintendent to explore the possibility of establishing an education foundation in Martinez. A steering committee was formed to look into the feasibility of establishing a foundation to provide funds for various classroom projects. They met monthly, reviewed what other communities were doing, and recommended that an education foundation be formed in Martinez. In August of 1983, the Martinez Education Foundation held its first meeting. MEF is a separate and independent entity from the Martinez Unified School District. All funds raised by MEF are distributed or invested in the Legacy Fund account at MEF's sole discretion by a majority vote of the MEF Board of Directors.

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, an important community event will take place:

The Martinez Refining Company and the Martinez Education Foundation on behalf of the Martinez Unified School District will host the 24th Annual MRC-MEF Run for Education.

The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and the following streets will be closed during that time:
Ward Street (between Berrellesa and Court Street)
Alhambra (between Marina Vista and Soto Street)
Marina Vista (between Berrellesa and Shell Avenue)
Escobar (between Berrellesa and Miller)
Soto (between Berrellesa and Alhambra)
One lane of Berrellesa (between Soto and Marina Vista) and one southbound lane will be open.
Court (between Ward Street and Marina Vista).

Please see the map of the event, including available detours, and use an alternate route for your early morning activities.
