Important information for the upcoming season!

Please visit the link below in order to register for Marshalltown School Special Olympics for the upcoming school year! This will require you to have a Google account.

We would love to see as many new and familiar faces as possible, but please understand that if your child is not registered timely they cannot participate.

Changes to note for the upcoming year:

• A $25 registration fee is due by August 24, 2026. These monies will go towards uniforms, equipment, snacks for the athletes during competitions, etc.

• Practice this year will be changed to Monday evenings from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Lenihan gym. First practice will be Monday, August 17th. We made this decision to gain better supervision at practices, keep all students safe, and allow more coaches and volunteers an easier timeframe to participate. School bus transportation will not be available.

• Bowling practices will begin Tuesday, September 8th at the Wayward Social bowling alley from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Wayward social has been very generous in allowing us to use their facility for practice.
We are requesting an additional $25 for those registered in bowling to help off-set the cost of practice fees and shoe rentals.

•Swimming season updates will be announced in the spring.

• You will be expected to acknowledge the Special Olympics Code of Conduct at the time of registration. If an athlete or unified partner is unable to adhere to the parameters of the guidelines they may be subject to a range of consequences by my Delegation or Special Olympics Iowa, up to and including not being allowed to participate in any sports, activities, and/or the Athlete Leadership Program.

• We continue to ask for parents and community members to consider volunteering their time for practices and competitions. We need volunteers willing to commit to a specific activity/sport. As a volunteer we ask that you attend practice once a week through its duration and attend competition with our student athletes. There will be no guess work in what you are committing to as you will be given prepared drills to run.

Had a great event for cycling! It was a little chilly, but the kids had fun. It was a well run Special Olympics event.  Thank you to all of the athletes, unified partners, parents, and volunteers that helped make the day a success!

Thank you to all of those who took the plunge, contributed, or worked behind the scenes. I don’t have a total yet but know it was over $6,500. Thank you to all that support the program. This money helps keep our program going and allowing us to purchase equipment for our athletes!

Marshalltown School Special Olympics is hosting our second annual Polar Plunge with Special Olympics Iowa on Friday May 1, 2026 at 1:30 PM.

Funds raised last year allowed us to purchase a unified tandem bike for athletes and peer partners, additional adaptive bikes, a switch-activated bowling ramp, and adaptive life jackets. Your support helps us continue offering opportunities like bowling, swimming, skiing, and expand our adaptive cycling equipment.

We are encouraging local businesses and leaders to create their own personal or community team and plunge with us. Employees raising money to “toss your boss” into the frigid water is also an option! Don’t want to plunge? You also have the option to make a general donation to our cause/donate to one of the students who is registered to plunge. You can also help us out by sharing this post to get the word out or tagging a local business or leader that you’d like to see take the plunge!

A reminder that the Polar Plunge is fast approaching! If you are registered you need to have raised a minimum of $25 to take the plunge! 🧊 Students at other schools wanting to participate will be bussed to Lenihan the day of the plunge. Don’t want to plunge but you want to support our group? Feel free to donate to one of the students or athletes who have not yet reached their fundraising goal.
