All of the efforts for the Maroa Splash Park will be from the Fall in Love with Maroa Group- (Family Friendly Goal 2). The revenue from the events such as Movies in the Park will all go towards our goal of a Splash Park! Strengthen our community and local economy by creating affordable & accessible recreational opportunities at in Maroa. Spencer Park, which could be a beautiful and vibrant communi
ty gathering place, is currently underutilized. It is common practice for many Maora residents to pay substantial fees for summer memberships to water facilities in other towns. In addition to giving our money to other towns for their recreational facilities, visits to their grocery, retail and dining establishments also result in lost revenue for our local businesses. Maroa and its local business community are losing out on income that could be generated by providing residents a reason to stay, and shop, local. Benefit ALL within our community by offering an affordable, fully accessible recreational facility. The town park area would provide affordable relief from the summer heat for all Maroa residents regardless of income level, and, importantly, address a gaping hole that currently exists by providing recreational opportunities for those with disabilities. The Solution: Create a year-round, accessible facility by building upon the infrastructure already in place at Spencer Park. Install a Splash Park: Spray parks are automated, interactive aquatic play areas for children of all ages, designed for use in unsupervised play areas. Combining safety and durability, spray parks are an effective way of providing unstructured summer recreational activities for families, primarily targeting children ages 2 to 12 yrs of age. A splash park, powered by sustainable means, would be installed on an unused section within the Spencer Park recreational area. Upgrade the Playground: Make the playground accessible to children with physical challenges, attract a broader age range by adding features, and install playground surfacing. Improve the Landscape: Add shade and picnic table seating for families to improve the area’s atmosphere, making it a place families will want to spend the day. Current infrastructure make Spencer Park an ideal location. Already in place are plumbing, potable water that can be dedicated to the splash pad, a sustainable method for handling water run- off. This will keep the process simple, and costs low. Additionally, public tennis courts and playground, located adjacent to the park, provide further incentive for families to wishing to visit a recreational facility that caters to everyone’s interest. Benefits of a Spray Park
Environmental Impact
Conserve natural resources: Splash parks use less water than swimming pools. Teach our children to enjoy and respect nature: Providing children and adults with memorable, pleasant experiences in an outdoor setting will promote a positive attitude towards nature.
‘Green’: Use Green Energy or Solar panels to power the splash pad and recreational area. Help residents drive less: Keeping more residents in town for recreation would lessen toxic emissions from cars and the town’s overall carbon footprint. Accessibility
Serve all children, including those with physical disabilities. Both the spray park and playground would be accessible to children with limiting physical disabilities, whether in wheelchairs, or unable to see or hear. This would fill a gaping hole in Maroa’s current offerings. Financial Considerations
Capital cost: A completely automated spray park can be constructed for a portion of the cost of an in-ground commercial grade swimming pool and requires less overall care and maintenance. Operational cost: Durable spray features require minimal maintenance and the automated system eliminates the need for an attendant to turn the system on and off daily. Support for local economy: Those who stay local shop local! Additional benefits include:
Safe for all, with no lifeguard supervision required
Unique play value for children aged 2 to 12
Maximize relationship with Spencer Park
Create a year-round facility, with the potential to erect a portable skating rink for the winter
Enhance Maroa’s Recreation Department’s and the public school’s summer camp programs
