Training in the dark is an important part of Search & Rescue! 🌙🌲🔦

Our K9s need to be prepared to work in all conditions, including nighttime searches when visibility is limited and the environment presents new challenges.

Night training helps our teams:
🐾 Build confidence working in the dark
🔦 Learn to navigate changing environments
👃 Strengthen scent detection and focus
🤝 Build trust and communication between handler and K9
🚨 Prepare for real-world missing person searches that may happen at any hour.

But who says important training can’t be FUN?! 🐶❤️ From watching our dogs work to seeing their excitement and drive, every training night is an opportunity to learn, grow, and strengthen our teams!

Over the last couple of weeks, our team has had the opportunity to assist law enforcement with a ongoing search.

Our role has been to provide trained K9 teams to help clear and search designated areas at the direction of law enforcement. Our K9s use their specialized training and capabilities to search areas that have been identified by the agencies leading the investigation.

We are honored to contribute our time, training, and K9 teams alongside law enforcement and other search teams. Our thoughts remain with Starla’s family and everyone who continues to work toward answers. Starla Goings was last seen on August 15, 2025.

When she’s off duty, Karma loves to dock dive! 🌊🐾 She may have an important job, but this girl definitely knows how to make a splash in her spare time! 😍

Troy and Sarah had the wonderful opportunity to do a K9 demonstration for the Peshtigo Lions Club! 🦁🐾

We were able to showcase both live tracking and human remains detection (HRD), giving the club a firsthand look at just how important these K9s are in search and rescue.

We demonstrated how our dogs use their incredible noses to detect and follow human scent, helping bring answers and, hopefully, missing loved ones home.

A huge thank you to the Peshtigo Lions Club for having us and for taking the time to learn more about K9 Search & Rescue! We truly appreciate the opportunity to share what we do and why these amazing dogs are so valuable. ❤️🐾

🐾 Advanced Distractions & Advanced Land Human Remains Detection Training at Center for Forensic Training and Education! 🐾

Day one of Advanced Distractions brought SO many challenges for K9 Karma! From food and animal bones to fish bait, environmental distractions, noise, and plenty of other tempting “deliciousness” tidbits! 🦴🐟🍖

The final day of Advanced Distractions took us into an old school building that will eventually be demolished, providing participants with realistic scenarios and challenging environments to work through.

They also completed 2 days of Advanced Land Human Remains Detection (HRD), working with fresh full specimens in realistic search scenarios. This hands-on experience is incredibly valuable for building our K9s’ skills, confidence, and reliability in the field.

A huge THANK YOU to Leslie for choosing to sponsor Sarah & K9 Karma for continued education in Advanced Distractions. Your support helps us continue to grow and improve our ability to serve our communities. ❤️🐾
