What happens after the diagnosis? When the appointments begin, the bills pile up and everyday life becomes anything but ordinary. It becomes far more than about just the ribbon then. Our neighbors facing breast cancer need more than recognition. They need understanding. Encouragement. Connection. And sometimes, they need help putting groceries on the table, getting to treatment or keeping the lights on.

This brings so much hope for the future for treating those diagnosed with glioblastoma. 🙏💜

When Tracey Kassman was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2022 at age 64, she thought her life was over. But she decided to take a chance and joined a trial studying an experimental vaccine.

NBC News first spoke with Kassman in 2023. At the time, she didn’t know if she would be alive to see that original story published. “Four years later, I’m still here,” she said.

Drugmaker MimiVax announced results from the trial Kassman joined for SurVaxM, aimed at preventing the recurrence of glioblastoma. While the overall results were mixed, there were encouraging signs for people under 65 who got the vaccine.

If the FDA approves SurVaxM, it could mark a major milestone for the treatment of an aggressive brain cancer that has only a few major medical advances.
