Girls Who Conduct Girls Who Conduct is an initiative created to empower and encourage the upcoming generation of women, women-identifying, and non-binary conductors.

📣 This week, we are featuring our participating conductors at the upcoming GWC & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Conductors Training Program!

Teresa Strobel-Gagiu is a distinguished conductor and music educator based in Champaign, Illinois. She is presently the orchestra librarian for Sinfonia da Camera and served as interim music director of the Illini Strings Orchestra at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Ms. Strobel-Gagiu earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Western Michigan University and her Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting at the University of South Carolina. During her graduate studies, she conducted various ensembles throughout the Columbia area, led educational clinics, and was a Graduate Assistant for the nationally recognized USC String Project.

📣 This week, we are featuring our participating conductors at the upcoming GWC & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Conductors Training Program!

❣️ Esin Aydingoz is a composer and conductor hailing from Istanbul, Turkey. She was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2024 for her cello arrangement of Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black," featured in Tim Burton’s Emmy winning hit Netflix series Wednesday. She is the former Assistant Chair of Berklee College of Music's Screen Scoring Department, and is currently teaching for Berklee Online's master degree in film scoring. She has composed music for a wide array of projects including film, TV, video games, and musicals. You can hear her music on Apple TV, Hulu, Netflix, Hallmark etc.

She toured the US twice with Disney/Pixar’s Coco in Concert as a conductor and music director and conducted other live-to-film concert experiences for Disney Concerts internationally. Her most recent feature, She Taught Love, is available on Hulu! Her concert works have been performed at the Carnegie Hall in NYC, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zorlu Center in Istanbul, Auditorium Stravinski in Montreux, National Taichung Theater in Taiwan, Castro Theater in San Francisco, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in LA, and many others. A voting member for The Recording Academy and a board member for both The Society of Composers & Lyricists and The Alliance for Women Film Composers, Esin truly strives to make the world a better place through the arts.

📣 This week, we are featuring our participating conductors at the upcoming GWC & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Conductors Training Program!

❣️ Chandra Wise , a Mississippi native and graduate of Tougaloo College and Mississippi College, is a seasoned pianist, vocalist, and choral director with nearly 30 years in church and sacred music. Beginning her musical journey at age nine, she has since toured internationally, recorded with the late Moses Hogan, and performed alongside acclaimed artists and ensembles.

Wise has directed school choirs, composed for recording artists, and currently leads the Worship Arts Department at New Jerusalem Church in Jackson, MS. Passionate about choral music, she continues to seek inspiring conducting opportunities that reflect her deep love for music and community.

❣️Patty Irwin is a Brooklyn-based conductor, voice teacher, and performer. In 2024, she founded and continues to music direct the Da Capo Choir which has since performed two annual concerts, debuted a world premiere commission by Cooper Baldwin, as well as recorded in the studio with a NY-based indie artist.

She founded the Patty Irwin Voice Studio where she teaches private voice, piano, and music theory. In 2024, Patty joined the faculty of Teaching Artists at Midori & Friends. In 2018, Patty received her BM with a double major in Vocal Performance & Music Theatre from Oklahoma City University.

❣️ Jacqueline Klein is an American conductor, vocalist, and scholar. In February 2025, she began as cover conductor to Jaap van Zweden with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been an assistant, cover, and guest conductor throughout the United States and sings professionally with various choral ensembles.

A Dallas native, she made her conducting debut at 17 with Dallas Symphony Orchestra members. Jacqueline holds degrees from Southern Methodist University, studied at the University of Oxford, and continues her development through workshops and masterclasses around the world.

❣️ Kristin is a native of Cincinnati, OH. She earned an undergraduate degree in Music Education at the University of Cincinnati' College-Conservatory of Music, and her master's of music in wind conducting with Dr. Russel Mikkelson at The Ohio State University. She currently serves as Director of Bands at McCutcheon HS in Lafayette, IN. She loves to travel, is a coffee enthusiast, and is currently training in Judo martial arts.

❣️ Kimberly W. Souther .souther currently serves as Visiting Associate Professor of Orchestras at Clemson University. Her research in audience engagement and accessibility inspires her performances at Clemson and beyond. She keeps a rigorous conducting schedule outside of her university position and believes deeply in collaborating with her community to ensure that all have the opportunity to experience and enjoy symphonic orchestra music.

Souther looks forward with great anticipation to her upcoming season, featuring her second year as Festival Director for the Heifetz International Music Festival, a new role as chair of development for the College Orchestra Directors Association, collaborative study and work with Warner Brothers recording studios and a newly inspired Library of Congress silent film concert series.

❣️ Mrs. Abigail Singer is a conductor, musician, and educator located in Orlando. She has her bachelor’s degree in music education and her master’s degree in wind conducting, both from the University of Florida. After her graduate studies, she was offered the Assistant Conductor position at the Ocala Symphony Orchestra, where she has since been working with Maestro Matthew Wardell.

She has also served as the Associate Director of Bands of the Freedom High School Band, a program that places emphasis on the student musician, with the understanding that every student is important and has the right to quality musical experiences.

Tru Mizzell (she/her) is an educator & music director from St.Petersburg,FL. Despite the odds, Tru has always felt as though the podium is her musical home. As a conductor, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to platforming the works of underrepresented composers. In every position she holds as a music director, Tru creates artistic opportunities that are founded in equity, justice, truth, and safety. Her thoughtful leadership approach allows musicians of multiple backgrounds and skill levels to feel welcomed and seen in a variety of music atmospheres.

Tru was selected as a recipient of the first-ever William Grant Still Initiative scholarship to attend the Conductor’s Retreat at Medomak. While there, she received coaching from Kenneth Kiesler. Tru has also received coaching from distinguished conductors Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Peter Jaffe, Dr.Scott Weiss, Donald Portnoy, Victoria Bond, and Nisan Ak.

In her spare time, Tru enjoys Crossfit workouts, relaxing on beaches, and journaling with her Beloved life partner, Tabitha Rose.

❣️Diana Chou .geiger.142 is a music educator, cellist, and conductor. She is the Artistic Director of The Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestras (TCSYO), as well as Conductor for Prelude Orchestra and String Ensemble. Under her leadership, the program continues to grow and expand.

Mrs. Chou has been a music educator since 2008 and has taught for Fairfax County Public Schools since 2013. She currently teaches at Lake Braddock Secondary School as the Middle School Orchestra Director. In addition, she is Director of the Fairfax Chamber Players, an orchestra made up of FCPS teachers in conjunction with the Academy Course Program.

❣️Ashley Deane is a passionate conductor and music educator who strives to bridge technical mastery with artistic expression in every performance. A recent graduate of Florida State University, Ashley brings a vibrant energy to her role as Associate Director of Bands at Winter Park High School. Her journey has woven through university podiums, public school stages, and summer festivals, always guided by a commitment to musical excellence and educational inclusivity.

Ashley’s artistry has been shaped by mentorship from distinguished conductors and refined through national conducting symposiums. She believes in creating spaces where music inspires, challenges, and transforms, and is dedicated to fostering diverse, dynamic ensembles that reflect the communities they serve.
