MIA History and Culture Club

MIA History and Culture Club We are an extracurricular club at Marco Island Academy.

We learn about culture, we practice our language skills and give students the opportunity to travel abroad with teachers as chaperones in a school approved, but not sponsored travel group.

Dear Community,

Many of your children, grandchildren, and friends’ children have traveled with us since our very first student trip to England and France in 2017. Since then, we’ve taken a group abroad every year (except during the COVID pause in 2020–2021), and on June 3 we will depart for Northern Spain and Portugal with our 8th group of Wandering Rays students.

Throughout the year, our students work hard to raise funds — including monthly car washes at Kretch’s — to help cover shared trip expenses such as buses, excursions, and group meals. We are forever grateful to our community for showing up every month to support us.

This year, we have two dedicated students who still need financial assistance. Each has already paid the majority of their $5,300 trip cost and has only $1,000 remaining, for a total need of $2,000. These students have worked incredibly hard, and we do not want to leave anyone behind.

If you are able to contribute any amount, it would mean so much and go directly toward helping these students complete their payments. These international experiences are truly life-changing, opening doors to new perspectives, future studies abroad, and leadership opportunities.

Please direct message us if you would like to donate or need more information. We can arrange a check in the mail or pickup or accept payments via Stripe, Venmo or Zelle and donations may be applied anonymously to the students’ registration fees if preferred.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us at our Car Wash! We have two more to go and we are almost to our 100 day countdown to Spain and Portugal. Registration closes on Friday for this trip and we are still seeking donations to support this group of students and teachers!
