May the Fourth be with you! While you might need protection from storm troopers, this imperial moth is no enemy of the rebellion. This insect is one of the largest and most beautiful in the state, found from New England all the way to the Florida Keys. Their caterpillars feed on oak, sweet gum, pines, maples and sassafras. It emerges as an adult in summer.

For more information about this intergalactic moth, take a look at this Ask IFAS publication https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/IN1051

Wildflower Wisdom: "There are many things I'd like to change in the world but feel powerless to do so. By planting native wildflowers in my garden, I can make an immediate impact." -John Janick

Start small by incorporating a few native plants into your landscape and grow from there: https://www.flawildflowers.org/learn-to-grow/

Even a simple pollinator pot gives bees and butterflies a stepping stone along their way: https://www.flawildflowers.org/pollinator-pot/

Why plant native? Florida native plants are adapted to thrive in our climate, conditions and soil. When regionally appropriate native plants are planted in the right places, they need less water and require no fertilizers or pesticides. This conserves water resources and keeps excess nutrients from polluting lakes, rivers and streams. They also provide vital habitat for bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects, as well as seeds, berries and insects for birds.
