Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that healing and hope often begin with community.

Grace experienced depression after facing a serious long-term medical condition and losing much of her support system. Through group talk therapy, she rebuilt her confidence and learned coping skills that helped her move forward.

Today, she serves as a peer facilitator, supporting others in her community who are experiencing depression.

As Pamela shared, “I am very grateful for the program... for saving lives.”

Mental health care does not just impact one person. It strengthens families, restores relationships, and creates communities where people are able to support one another.

Today is International Day of Families, a global observance recognizing the important role families play in shaping children’s health, well-being, and future opportunities.

This year’s theme focuses on how inequality affects families and children around the world. Many families are navigating financial hardship, limited access to healthcare and education, caregiving burdens, and ongoing uncertainty about the future.

These challenges can take a serious toll on mental health.

At StrongMinds, we see every day how depression impacts not just individuals, but entire families. When caregivers receive mental health support, the effects can ripple outward through households and communities. Parents are better able to care for their children, relationships improve, and families are better equipped to navigate difficult circumstances together.

Supporting mental health is part of supporting families.

Mental Health Awareness Month is about recognizing that depression can affect every part of a person’s life, including their relationships, confidence, and ability to imagine a future.

Before joining a StrongMinds therapy group, David says he felt disconnected from his wife, children, and friends. After losing money from his agricultural work, he began withdrawing from others and struggling with anger and hopelessness.

Through group talk therapy, Alex found support from other men in his community who encouraged him to rebuild his relationships and start again. Partway through therapy, he planted a two-acre tomato garden and began planning for the future once more.

Today, he says his family is happier, his home is more stable, and he feels hopeful again.

Mental health care can help people reconnect with themselves, their families, and their futures.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, caregivers, and women who show up every day with strength, resilience, and care for those around them.

As we celebrate all mothers today, we’re also recognizing that motherhood can be emotionally complex. Many women experience depression, anxiety, isolation, and overwhelming stress during pregnancy and after birth.

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder that mental health support is essential before, during, and after pregnancy. At StrongMinds, we meet mothers where they are with group talk therapy that helps women process what they’re carrying, build support systems, and regain hope for themselves and their families.

When a mother’s mental health improves, the impact reaches far beyond one person. Children are more likely to thrive, families grow stronger, and communities become more resilient.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate mothers not only for everything they give, but by recognizing that their mental health matters too.

Today is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Day.

Pregnancy and early motherhood can be overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally exhausting. Yet for millions of women around the world, depression during this period goes untreated.

Today, we’re officially launching our new Perinatal Mental Health Report exploring the realities mothers face, the barriers to care, and what becomes possible when support is within reach.

In communities across Africa, StrongMinds provides group talk therapy that helps women navigate depression during pregnancy and after childbirth, creating space for connection, support, and recovery. Because maternal health must include mental health.

We’re back from Women Deliver 2026 and still processing what an energizing, inspiring week it was.

Across every conversation, one thing was clear: mental health is central to women’s and girls’ ability to thrive.

At our booth, people stepped inside a StrongMinds therapy group in Zambia through virtual reality, experiencing what community-based care actually looks like. They shared words from their own languages to describe mental health and connected over something deeply human: how we make sense of what we’re feeling.

We also introduced our new Perinatal Depression Report, highlighting the critical need for mental health support during and after pregnancy.

On stage, our colleague Rebecca Nabirabwa spoke about su***de prevention and the importance of community-based care for women and girls. During our side event, Inside the Circle, organized by our partners at Orygen, she brought the audience into a live simulation of a therapy group, showing how trust is built, how stories are shared, and how recovery begins together.

These were not just presentations. They were reminders that solutions already exist and are working.

We left Melbourne more committed than ever to scaling mental health care so every woman and girl can access the support she deserves.

StrongMinds held a successful district entry meeting in Kawempe Division, Uganda, formalizing our work with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

This partnership marks a big step forward, with key commitments including the establishment of a Mental Health Committee, the appointment of a Division Mental Health Focal Person, a pledge to allocate at least 2% of the budget to mental health, and plans to coordinate awareness sessions and expand community outreach.

A strong step toward building sustainable mental health systems in Kampala!

StrongMinds is on the ground at the Mayuge Integrated Medical Camp alongside World Vision, IDRC, Living Goods, and other partners.

We’re supporting mental health by raising awareness and screening for depression and anxiety, while expanding access to self-help support. It's encouraging to see more community members engaging with these services. 🧠

As Earth Month ends, one thing is clear: climate change is a mental health issue. Extreme weather like floods doesn’t just cause physical damage. It takes a psychological toll on people, leading to depression and emotional distress in the aftermath of a crisis.

For communities already living with limited resources, these events can unravel daily life entirely. Recovery isn’t just about rebuilding homes or restoring income. It’s about helping people process what they’ve been through and find a way forward.

In Uganda, Michael lost everything to flooding. What helped him move forward wasn’t money; it was mental health support. His story shows why recovery takes more than rebuilding.

World Malaria Day highlights the global fight against a preventable, deadly disease.

For StrongMinds, it also marks where our story began. Through his work in malaria and HIV, our Founder & CEO, Sean Mayberry, saw firsthand how closely physical and mental health are connected. He noticed that depression was not only a result of illness, but it was also making it harder for people to protect themselves in the first place. People struggling with depression were less likely to take preventative steps like hanging mosquito nets, increasing their risk of getting sick.

That insight helped shape our mission. Mental health challenges do not exist in isolation, and they can directly affect how people engage with their health and well-being.

Today, we provide group talk therapy to help people move forward with the tools, support, and confidence to take care of themselves and their families. Global health efforts are stronger when mental health is part of the solution.
