We are digging the idea of being back home in the North End!

Work is beginning on the parking lot and former drive-thru area, and we can't wait to reveal what this section of our new space will soon become!

There is still plenty of work happening behind the scenes, but every day brings us one step closer to opening our doors and welcoming the community into this exciting new chapter for NECIC.

As a reminder, this week will be the final week for both NECIC's Main Office and the NECIC Staffing Mansfield office at our Main Street location. Beginning June 16, we will officially be operating from our new home at 486 Springmill Street.

Stay tuned for more updates as the transformation continues!

MISSION MONDAY is a NECIC series highlighting the staff, board members, volunteers, and community partners who help carry out our mission every day.

Each week, we'll introduce you to the people behind the work and share their stories, experiences, and passion for the North End and beyond.

Today we're highlighting Emily Schwan, MATI Community Impact Organizer.

Before joining NECIC, Emily worked at Third Street Family Health Services, where she regularly saw NECIC's impact firsthand through their partnership and community work.

"As I learned more about NECIC, I realized I wanted to move into a role where I could have a more direct impact on the community," .

That desire to create meaningful change led her to NECIC in November, where she joined the team as the MATI Community Impact Organizer. Since then, she has led transportation insecurity research across Richland County in partnership with Richland County Transit, helping identify barriers that prevent residents from accessing jobs, healthcare, education, and other essential services.

For Emily, one of the most rewarding parts of working at NECIC is being surrounded by people who are deeply committed to making a difference.

"NECIC is a place where real change happens. Everyone here is committed to improving the North End of Mansfield, and we use our different skills and strengths to make that happen."

Through her work, Emily has gained an even greater appreciation for the many individuals and organizations working every day to strengthen the community.

"I've seen just how many passionate people are out there doing the work to make our community a better place."

As Emily looks ahead, she hopes more people learn about the wide range of programs and services available through NECIC.

"I wish more people knew about all the different ways NECIC serves the community. We offer programs and services for people of all ages and backgrounds, and we're involved in so many efforts to make the North End stronger."

She also hopes more residents become aware of NECIC Staffing and the employment support services available to job seekers and employers throughout the region.

Next month, Emily will begin a new chapter as NECIC's Director of Community Organizing, where she will lead our team of community organizers and continue helping build stronger connections throughout the North End.

We're grateful to have Emily on our team and excited to see the impact she'll continue to make in her new role.

Building Update!

You may have noticed some exciting changes happening at the old building on the corner of Springmill and Bowman!

Most recently, the talented team at Mankind Painting LLC have begun transforming the exterior with a bold new paint job, helping bring new life and energy to the new Grow by NECIC building in the North End.

Over the past few months, the building has undergone significant improvements, including:
✔️ A new roof
✔️ New flooring and carpet
✔️ Fresh interior paint
✔️ Electrical upgrades
✔️ Internet and security improvements
✔️ Plumbing updates
✔️ Interior renovations

And there's still much more to come!

In just a few short weeks, the NECIC team will officially be coming home to the heart of the North End. While there is still plenty of construction and many moving pieces, we're excited to finally see our vision beginning to take shape.

This project would not be possible without the incredible support of so many businesses, organizations, volunteers, and community leaders. We would like to extend a special thank you to NECIC Board of Directors, Board Chair Chris Hiner, Vice Chair Braxton Charles Daniels III, our NECIC Staff, The North End Community, Washington Carpet One, Ritter's Office Outfitters, Netpoint Consulting, Peak Power Electrical Contractors, Inc., and many others who have helped move this project forward.

The future is looking bright, and we can't wait to be back home in the North End.

Join us for week one as we celebrate the pets of the North End Farmers Market!

We're looking for photos of the pets of our Farmers Market patrons! To enter, post a photo of your pet on Facebook using or send it to us through Facebook or Instagram. Then stop by the market on June 18th and vote for your favorite. The winning pet owner will receive $25 in Market Bucks to spend at the market.

For our opening market, we'll be joined by Trail Dog Pizza and The Sipping Sisters, along with a live cooking demonstration from Chris Jackson. You'll also be able to visit with the Mansfield Richland County Public Library Bookmobile, Richland Public Health, the Richland County Dog Warden's Office & Shelter, and the North Central State College/Ohio State Mansfield Child Development Center

We'll have free cat toys and pet treat bags available while supplies last, thanks to Eva Wehry, and we'll be announcing our full vendor lineup soon!

We can't wait to welcome everyone back for another season of local food, small businesses, community partners, and neighborhood connections. Bring a friend, bring your family, and don't forget to show us your pets.
