MISSION MONDAY is a NECIC series highlighting the staff, board members, volunteers, and community partners who help carry out our mission every day.
Each week, we'll introduce you to the people behind the work and share their stories, experiences, and passion for the North End and beyond.

Today we're highlighting Emily Schwan, MATI Community Impact Organizer.
Before joining NECIC, Emily worked at Third Street Family Health Services, where she regularly saw NECIC's impact firsthand through their partnership and community work.
"As I learned more about NECIC, I realized I wanted to move into a role where I could have a more direct impact on the community," .
That desire to create meaningful change led her to NECIC in November, where she joined the team as the MATI Community Impact Organizer. Since then, she has led transportation insecurity research across Richland County in partnership with Richland County Transit, helping identify barriers that prevent residents from accessing jobs, healthcare, education, and other essential services.
For Emily, one of the most rewarding parts of working at NECIC is being surrounded by people who are deeply committed to making a difference.
"NECIC is a place where real change happens. Everyone here is committed to improving the North End of Mansfield, and we use our different skills and strengths to make that happen."
Through her work, Emily has gained an even greater appreciation for the many individuals and organizations working every day to strengthen the community.
"I've seen just how many passionate people are out there doing the work to make our community a better place."
As Emily looks ahead, she hopes more people learn about the wide range of programs and services available through NECIC.
"I wish more people knew about all the different ways NECIC serves the community. We offer programs and services for people of all ages and backgrounds, and we're involved in so many efforts to make the North End stronger."
She also hopes more residents become aware of NECIC Staffing and the employment support services available to job seekers and employers throughout the region.
Next month, Emily will begin a new chapter as NECIC's Director of Community Organizing, where she will lead our team of community organizers and continue helping build stronger connections throughout the North End.
We're grateful to have Emily on our team and excited to see the impact she'll continue to make in her new role.
