Members or Sunrise Rotary had the opportunity to visit Crossfire Ranch and got to learn about the incredible impact they are making in our community.

We spent time meeting the horses, learning their stories, and hearing how these animals help youth work through trauma, build confidence, and rediscover hope. It was an inspiring visit.

Tuesday we welcomed Ashley Bender, Executive Director of United Way to Rotary. We also heard a personal biography from member, Renee Thompson and about the delightful Mystery at Point Beach book series from author, Debby Erdmann. Written for school-age children this series takes place in Manitowoc County. Many of us bought a copy, as they sound so interesting!

In the presence of heros today. Imagine for a second being in an ongoing war in your country with the expectation that this will be going on for years. Now imagine what difference you might bring to the everyday people whose lives are in turmoil everyday. That is where I found myself today as Barry Nelson (veteran) and the members of Manitowoc Noon Rotary and Manitowoc Sunrise Rotary held a joint meeting with Ukrainian Rotarians from Ternopil and Kharkiv. What can you do? How can you help? If you care to make a difference Barry will be making his 13th trip to Ukraine and he supplies all his own airfare and supplies and expenses but his efforts will go to help fund supplies and necessities to these people. Specifically he was talking about a vehicle to help make these deliveries and also an ecoflow which will help in one of the bombing shelters for 420 orphans. You know the saying "first world problems" comes to mind. Let us know if you would like to help.

Wednesday Manitowoc Sunrise Rotary worked at the Community Dinners. We prepared and distributed about 125 meals. Thanks to Renee
Thompson, Paul Roekle, Patty Marak, Sister Marcolette, Susan Schaffer Senglaub, Kathy and Joe Bernhart, Michael Pearson and Mike and Sue Woznick.

We were honored to welcome local author Brenda Poklinkoski, along with her sister Laura Radandt, to our meeting. They shared the story behind their book “Teddy’s Hospital Adventure” before reading it aloud to us. It was a true delight to hear the inspiration and experience the story firsthand. Thank you, Brenda and Laura, we were certainly among local celebrities!

We also heard from Ashley Bender of United Way, who shared information about the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and its impact on early literacy.

Stephanie Rosado-Stuckmann from the Manitowoc Public School System joined us as well. Manitowoc Sunrise Rotary is proud to continue supporting the Read to Succeed program, serving 250 4K students this year.

Today Detective Denk from the Manitowoc Police Dept. brought us up to date on Human Trafficking in the city, some of the causes and what the Police are doing to deal with it.
