Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative was honored to receive a Lake Michigan Champion of Conservation Award at Lake Michigan Day last week.

Thank you to the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership for the recognition and for celebrating the people and partnerships working to protect Lake Michigan and the waters that flow into it.

Most of all, thank you to our members — the farmers, landowners, agribusiness partners, conservation staff, and supporters who continue to invest in healthier soil, cleaner water, and stronger farms.

This award reflects the work you’re doing on the ground, in your fields, and across our communities.

We’re proud to be part of this farmer-led effort.

LDMI sounds good on paper — but what does it look like in a real local field?

This September, Seven Rivers Soil Cooperative is partnering with Between the Lakes Demonstration Farm Network. R Braun Inc and Manitowoc County Soil and Water Conservation Department for an upcoming LDMI Field Day at Libertyland Farms Inc.

We’ll take a practical look at:

🌱 Toolbar adjustments for low-disturbance manure injection
🌱 Different manure application rates
🌱 Living cover, forage opportunities, and fall manure timing

It’s a chance to see equipment in the field, ask questions, and talk through what might actually fit local farms.

Final date will depend on corn growth and field conditions.

Relay crop experiment with Don Rabitz! He planted twin row wheat last fall for every benefit of having a living root and ground cover/protection.

This spring he interplanted 30” soybeans. He’s getting close to harvesting the wheat and letting his beans flourish and finish growing before harvesting them too!
